Connect Plus Services (CPS) operates and maintains the M25 motorway network, including all adjoining trunk and slip roads on behalf of Connect Plus. The M25 is one of the busiest sections of road in the UK. It is also undoubtedly one of the most significant. We carry out routine maintenance, winter maintenance, as well as managing the whole-life requirement of over 250,000 assets. We also manage the operation of the network and identify ways of reducing delays and improving journey time reliability.

Role Purpose:

Lead investigations into locations on DBFO Network that have experienced problems with surface water and make recommendations to best manage risk from surface water on highway.

The successful candidate will be responsible for leading investigations into locations on network where potential problems with surface water have been identified.

Principle accountabilities for the role include:
  • Assessing all potential route cause(s) for surface water problems; considering maintenance of whole highway drainage network, condition of highway drainage assets, geometry of highway & adjacent land, local surface water drainage, any other relevant causes.
  • Identifying the need, scoping, commissioning, and reviewing results from studies / surveys / models etc.
  • Identification, risk-based appraisal and making recommendations for changes to: network operations; maintenance; or improvements to assets to address route cause(s).
  • Producing reports that clearly and concisely explain the problems and possible solutions.
  • Produce and deliver high-level briefing notes to directors within CPS, CP and National Highways.
  • Undertaking suitable surface water / drainage modelling as required.

Experience/Criteria required:
  • Experienced in dealing with complex surface water and drainage sites and identifying route cause of surface water problems (I.e. standing water / flooding on highway or adjacent land).
  • Experienced in the design of drainage networks (including highway drainage).
  • Experience in scoping, delivering and interpretation of results from surface water and drainage modelling. Including understanding of modelling limitations and considerations in selecting appropriate modelling techniques.
  • Understanding of the responsibilities placed on different duty holders under the various land drainage and flood defence regulations; including the Environment Agency, Lead Local Flood Authorities, District and Borough Councils, Water and sewerage companies, Internal Drainage Boards, and highways authorities.
  • Understanding of climate change and impact on design, operation, and maintenance surface water networks.

Location: Dartford, Leatherhead or South Mimms; however, we welcome flexible working.
