The role of the Production Design Engineer will be to report to the Design Manager and to be part of a busy team.

The primary purpose of this role is to turn the main structural elements of the Lead designers building into a format that is practical to produce by the supply chain.
This with particular regard to cold rolled steel solutions where expertise in suppliers manufacturing capabilities is required. An accurate Bill of Materials is also essential for Purchasing. The role also requires guiding and managing Product Designers Draughtsman.

*To produce high quality, technically-accurate, cost-effective modular building frame design solutions to match the requirements of both enquiries and orders using a mixture of light steel framing, hot rolled steel, timber or composite panel solutions as the job dictates.

*To produce accurate framing bills of materials in a timely fashion from structure designs to allow purchasing of same.

*To undertake, when necessary, the role of project co-ordinator with responsibility for organising and controlling a programme of design work targeted towards a specific building project.

*To manage a small framing design team overseeing every element. (either contract or permanent) providing support and mentoring where necessary.

*To provide a credible, receptive and professional interface with other areas of the business to ensure effective and harmonious working.

*To become a product technical expert, continually embracing new technologies and developments and ensuring a good working knowledge of fabrication limitations in supply.

*To cultivate relationships with internal/external sources of technical expertise that will be necessary to support the ongoing success of the business.

*To ensure that all proposed design solutions are underwritten with professional consultancy engineering calculation and product indemnity where necessary.

*To have and maintain a good working knowledge of robust details for example NHBC and help incorporate these in the design.
*To Consider and incorporate all current legislation, Fire Compliance, Noise, Cold Bridging etc.
*To develop a good understanding of constraints / needs of M & E within a building and assist in designing accordingly.


*In-depth understanding of steel fabrication / cladding.

*Experienced and proficient user of AUTOCAD and 3D Software such as Advance Steel gained within a building/architectural/Framing environment, must be able to produce accurate drawings independently and in a timely manner.

*Ideally Degree level however HNC/HND will be considered with the right experience / Track Record or equivalent tertiary qualification.

Experience in designing steel framed or modular buildings would be a distinct advantage

*Knowledge of light steel / steel construction highly desirable, particularly constraints of suppliers when considering sections.
