Engineer III

The Town of Clarkstown is seeking a senior level civil engineer with thorough knowledge of the principles and practices of civil engineering and construction methods.

Essential duties include but are not limited to:

• Supervising and participating in the preparation, review and revision of plans; specifications, and designs of proposed capital improvement projects;
• Directing preliminary studies, investigations, estimates, and the preparation of drawings of proposed engineering projects;
• Reviewing land development applications for technical sufficiency and providing reports;
• Performing technical research and preparing reports of findings;
• Preparing bidding sheets for the purchase of materials and equipment;
• Reviewing specifications of private contractors;
• Directing inspections of contract construction.

The position requires thorough knowledge of modern methods and techniques as applied to the design, construction and maintenance of structures and facilities; thorough knowledge of engineering research and economics; ability to plan, layout and supervise engineering projects; ability to communicate effectively both orally and in writing; ability to prepare complex technical reports, correspondence and to resolve problems. The work is performed under general direction of a higher-level administrator and involves the oversight of lower-level engineering staff. NYS PE license required, three+ years of post-licensure experience is preferred. Proficiency in Autodesk Civil 3D and Hydrocad is a plus.
