Job Details

The Department of Civil Engineering (CE) at the University of Texas at Arlington is seeking an outstanding tenure track Assistant Professor in Construction Engineering and Management. Exceptional candidates may be considered to be appointed at the rank of tenure track associate professor. This position will be in the College of Engineering with appointment in the CE Department. The CE Department currently has several endowed professorships that are available and can be awarded to the successful candidates with commensurate qualifications. This position focuses on Construction Engineering and Management research areas including but not limited to Automation in Construction, Construction Robotics, 3D Printing, Suitability, Safety, Building Information Modeling (BIM), Digital Twins in Construction, Data Analytics in Construction, Construction Policies and Equity, etc.

Required qualifications

An earned Ph.D. degree (All-But-Dissertation, ABD, cases will be considered) in civil engineering or a closely related field is required. Candidates for Assistant Professor position must have demonstrated a commitment to quality teaching and scholarly research. Candidates for Associate Professor position are expected to have excellent records of research, scholarship, extramural funding and demonstrated leadership.

Preferred qualifications

Research experience in construction engineering and management; teaching excellence at the undergraduate and graduate levels; experience mentoring undergraduate and graduate students; proven interdisciplinary research experiences on state/federally funded projects; curriculum/course development; proposal development; and ability to support diversity, equity and inclusion efforts within the College of Engineering and Department of Civil Engineering in both teaching and research.

Department Information 

The College of Engineering is home to seven departments: Bioengineering; Civil Engineering; Computer Science and Engineering; Electrical Engineering; Industrial, Manufacturing, and Systems Engineering; Materials Science and Engineering; and Mechanical and Aerospace Engineering. With more than 7,000 students, the College is the third-largest in Texas and offers the most comprehensive engineering degree programs in the region. It offers 10 baccalaureate, 14 master’s, and 9 doctoral degree programs and has ties to numerous Fortune 500 companies in the region. The College is enjoying extraordinary growth in graduate and undergraduate student enrollment and in student graduation. This growth has been concomitant with growth in research expenditures, collaboration, innovation and entrepreneurship by faculty and students. The Civil Engineering Department has enjoyed significant growth in recent years and enjoys a robust research enterprise in the areas of construction engineering and management; environmental engineering; geotechnical engineering; infrastructure system engineering and management; structural engineering and mechanics; transportation engineering; and water resources engineering, with per-faculty research expenditures totaling more than $320,000. In addition, the department works with many top civil engineering firms in the Dallas-Fort Worth area, as well as the Texas Department of Transportation, NOAA and other government agencies.
