Public Works Director / City Engineer

Annual salary range: $126,069.58 to $160,900.22

This is an exceptional opportunity for a resourceful and experienced public works professional to take on this role, currently filled by a consultant.

 

The county seat of Tehama County, Red Bluff (pop. 15,000) is nestled in the Northern Sacramento Valley 35 miles south of Redding. The gateway to the famous Lassen Volcanic National Park, Red Bluff offers a unique blend of Western and Victorian heritage. Warm summers, mild winters and 23 inches of annual rainfall, make Red Bluff the ultimate in healthful, leisurely living.

 

The City is seeking a strong leader and effective communicator who possesses broad experience in public works and city engineering; the ability to effectively implement projects and supervise staff with a fair and positive management style; and, a background in securing funds and using them creatively to complete projects. This position works collaboratively with stakeholders that include residents, developers, regulatory agencies, and surrounding jurisdictions to find workable, common-sense solutions to complex issues. The next Public Works Director will infuse a customer service approach throughout the organization. Coach/mentors dedicated to team-building and fostering strong employee morale and job satisfaction will be successful in this role.

 

Education and Experience

A Bachelor’s degree in Civil Engineering or a closely related field; five (5) years’ experience in the management of public works programs which includes the supervision and development of supervisory, professional, and technical employees; and registration as a professional engineer with the State of California are expected. Possession of a license to practice Land Surveying is also desirable.
