What you'll be doing

BWB Consulting has exciting opportunities for a Civil Engineer to join our Transport & Infrastructure group. The role will be working with our Design Development team in our Birmingham office.

The team delivers a wide variety of consultancy services to a large client base, both local and national. The Transport & Infrastructure Design Service are responsible for providing a number of engineering services across multiple sectors, at all stages of our client's project, from inception through to commissioning.
  • Working on challenging and multiple projects simultaneously, you will be undertaking preliminary and detailed design of roads, levels, drainage and external works in both the public (adoptable) and private realm.
  • You will be providing technical support activities on more than one project, as determined by the Team Leader and/or other senior members of the team.
  • An Engineer is required to work with limited support and supervision. It is expected that the Engineer will take greater responsibility for their own development and learning, as well as support the development of more junior team members with the supervising Graduate Engineers and apprentices.
  • The role is required to work in close co-operation with others in BWB.
  • An Engineer will be required to comply with Company procedures and with health and safety and environmental regulations.
  • When liaising with internal/external clients and third parties an Engineer is expected to adopt a professional approach.

What you'll bring
  • Technical experience within the field of Civil Engineering design, covering several aspects of preliminary and detailed design of highways, levels, drainage and external works.
  • An aptitude using our industry standard design software packages AutoCad, Civil 3D (although extensive experience in the use of PDS would be considered as long as there is a willingness to train on Civil 3D) and MicroDrainage. Experienced with the use of the Microsoft Office Suite of software, including Excel.
  • You will understand the multi-disciplinary nature of projects from planning stage, through to completion and a willingness to understand more about other discipline roles on projects.
  • Experience liaising with both internal and external bodies, including planning authorities, statutory undertakers and national bodies such as the Environment Agency.
  • You will understand the importance of working with different types of client in a complex industry - our clients include developers, local authorities and contractors, all of whom have different expectations and requirements from you and the projects you will work on.
  • Commercial awareness within your field of experience.
  • Willingness to develop an outward facing capacity as a design team representative in dealings with clients on technical matters.
  • A willingness to delegate design responsibility to others and act in a mentoring role to less experienced staff.
  • Good communicator, both written and oral, with the ability to adapt communication style to suit different circumstances
  • Ability to build and maintain strong relationships at all levels both internally and externally.
  • A 'self-starter' with drive, positivity and enthusiasm and a strong desire to succeed.

What we offer
  • 25 days holiday (with the option to purchase more), pension, life assurance and healthcare.
  • Perkbox, Cycle to Work, paid volunteering days, regular social events, rewards scheme and much more.
