Assistant Professor of Civil Engineering
Department of Civil and Environmental Engineering

The Lafayette College Department of Civil & Environmental Engineering invites applications for a full time, tenure-track Assistant Professor position in project and construction management with an emphasis on sustainable engineering practices and a proposed starting date of August 2023.

Candidates must have a Ph.D. in civil engineering, construction engineering, or related discipline by July 1, 2023, and possess enthusiasm for teaching and the ability to communicate complex, technical concepts to students. The successful candidate will also demonstrate the potential to develop a research program that involves undergraduate students in meaningful research experiences and produces publications in peer-reviewed journals. Particular consideration will be given to candidates with relevant professional experience in the construction industry, professional engineering licensure, teaching experience, and/or experience conducting research with undergraduate students. Applications are especially welcome from candidates who will contribute to Lafayette’s commitment to diversity and inclusion.

Lafayette College is a leader in undergraduate engineering education and has offered a civil engineering program since 1866. Since its inception, the program has emphasized superior education in engineering and the liberal arts, placing a strong emphasis on student-faculty interaction. This educational experience is accomplished through a focus on excellence in teaching and by providing opportunities for students to take courses in a wide number of disciplines, study abroad, engage in research, and participate in hands on design projects. Faculty members teach the equivalent of four courses in their first year and five courses per year thereafter, including introductory and capstone engineering courses and courses that contribute to Lafayette’s Common Course of Study. This tenure-track position provides a unique opportunity to mentor students at one of the nation’s highly ranked undergraduate-only institutions offering ABET-accredited engineering degrees. Further information about the department can be found at http://ce.lafayette.edu/.

In recent years Lafayette’s engineering programs have been ranked in the top 20 in the nation by U.S. News and World Report among undergraduate-focused institutions. In 2019, Lafayette began offering an interdisciplinary engineering program enabling students to focus in areas including robotics, bioengineering, environment, and energy. The faculty in the Department of Civil & Environmental Engineering play a central role in offering and maintaining this program.

Applicants should submit a cover letter, a statement of teaching philosophy and interests, a statement of research interests, a curriculum vitae, and three letters of reference through Interfolio (apply.interfolio.com/109754). Application materials should demonstrate the applicant’s commitment to teaching engineering in an undergraduate, liberal arts environment and address how the applicant’s teaching, research, and/or service will support Lafayette’s commitment to diversity and inclusion.

Review of applications will begin on September 15, 2022. However, applications will be accepted until the position is filled.
