Our client is a leading independent power producer operating and developing diversified power projects in Africa.

As a Development Engineer, you will support the business development team to develop and construct energy projects across Africa.

The projects you will work on will primarily be wind energy projects, however, there will also be opportunities to work on other technologies including solar and BESS. All projects may incorporate energy storage systems, thermal generation or other hybrid technologies.

Projects may be at greenfield, part-developed or operations phase. You as the Development Engineer will provide technical guidance in all project development activities including yield estimates, project optimisation, technology analysis, contract development, tendering, contracting, due diligence, cost estimation and construction monitoring. The role will also give you the chance to manage third party contractors and contracts.

The role will from time to time will require travel across Africa and often to remote greenfield and construction sites to oversee key parts of the construction.

Responsibilities

Working with the business development project teams to manage all technical project inputs.
Manage the optimisation of project sites and technology.
Assessment and mitigation of project risks.
Use of modelling tools such as WAsP and WindPro but also PVSyst, CAD, GIS, HOMER and in house software.
Drafting of technical specifications.
Undertake due diligence processes including site visits and assessments.
Selection and management of third-party technical advisors and experts.
Development of accurate cost and yield estimates for use in financial models.
Interpretation of project documents (PPA, JDA, GSA, MOU, ESIA etc) and incorporation of requirements into contractors' documents (primarily EPC and O&M Contracts).
Management of site technical investigations including ground investigations and grid assessments.
Manage contractor tendering and negotiation processes.
Manage Lender's and Owner's Engineers and the associated relationships, communication and information flow.
Management of project development and construction schedules.
Participate in planning and selection of resourcing for construction management staff.
Monitoring of project construction activities.
Maintaining strong interfaces with all project disciplines including legal, E&S, finance and HR.

Requirements

Engineering degree, or significant technical training or experience.
Significant experience in the wind energy industry, either as a Technical Advisor or Development Engineer.
Experience in wind energy project design and optimisation.
Experienced in developing and negotiating contracts including power purchase agreements, construction contracts, grid connection agreements.
Knowledge of the roles and responsibilities of Lender's, Owner's Engineers, Lender's Engineer and contractors.
Proficient in Microsoft Office suite.
Knowledge of French, Portuguese or Arabic would be beneficial.
