Our National Environment Group at GHD is continuing to grow with landmark projects currently being undertaken both in New Zealand and across the Pacific under a vibrant and inclusive team culture & leadership, with high staff retention and well-being focus.

Part of this success has seen our Environmental Engineering service offering significantly grow, particularly in the landfill abatement and design (both active and closed sites), waste and circular economy sector. To date, our delivery has been achieved by providing a multi-regional environmental science, geotechnical and engineering services to clients. To further consolidate this offering, GHD are seeking an established Environmental Engineer to lead this business sector in New Zealand and Pacific. The role will primarily involve responsibility for overall client engagement and delivery of landfill, strategic waste advice and land remediation projects across New Zealand and Pacific. This position is New Zealand based and provides a unique opportunity to lead our growing landfill abatement and design & waste sector services team with support from our an incredibly strong local team in New Zealand and across the APAC region.

Working with the client, business and technical leaders, this position offers great variety of projects, and will see you involved in a range of projects, and will see you involved in:
  • Developing and implementing business plans and strategies for the growth of Landfill and Waste Services in New Zealand and Pacific as well as supporting the wider national environment business.
  • Leading and contributing to implementation of engineering and technical solutions for landfills and contamination land remediation projects.
  • Promoting GHD's established environmental engineering and technical capacity to clients, driving & coordinating delivery through our national business.
  • Development of strategic waste advice and associated management plans.
  • Planning and owning the delivery of environmental outcomes & solutions to our established clients.
  • Providing creative, sustainable solutions to fit the needs of our clients and communities.
  • Making technical decisions, preparing technical reports, management plans and client and business strategies.
  • Leading and contributing to the preparation of proposals and bids for projects.
  • Coordinating the work of the team, mentoring less experienced team members.
  • Work with industry groups and various stakeholders to continue to develop GHDs engagement in the sector.

What you will bring to the team
  • Desire to be the face of GHD in New Zealand and lead our Landfill and Waste Sector presence.
  • Leadership and directorship for technical delivery of landfill design and/or abatement projects, land remediation projects.
  • Strong knowledge of engineering requirements for landfills, solutions for landfill abatement and design of associated landfill management systems e.g. leachate collection, landfill gas, containment cell design etc.
  • Knowledge of environmental risk management to coastal environments and sensitive environmental receptors and communities.
  • Sound knowledge of environmental challenges facing communities and how technical assessments and planning can provide beneficial outcomes to communities.
  • Have excellent communication and client management skills.
  • Demonstrated professional judgement and commercial acumen, including identifying, assessing, evaluating and solving problems to brief and budget.
  • Robust written and verbal skills, with the ability to communicate complex issues concisely.
  • An interest in coaching and mentoring to technically strengthen the team capabilities.
  • Relevant tertiary qualification.
