Civil/ Structural Test Engineer

We are working with RPOne powered by the Morson Group to support their client Rolls Royce SMR (small modular reactor) in the recruitment of a Civil/ Structural Test Engineer. The Civil / Structural Test Engineer will act as the focal point in verifying and validating that the civil and structural designs of the SMR power station meet their requirements.
Roles & Responsibilities
As a Civil/ Structural Test Engineer, you will be responsible for:
Defining and managing the design Verification/substantiation Strategy for Civil and Structural aspects of the power station, by bringing together expertise from across the wider engineering team.
Defining the scope and deliverables for verification activities within the strategy, such as physical test programmes or specific analyses. You may also get involved in running physical test programmes.
Applying technical knowledge to act as an Intelligent Customer when discussing methods of verification with design teams and suppliers.
Reviewing Civil or Structural related activities against relevant codes and standards to ensure they are conducted to the necessary level of quality.
Understanding the expectations of regulatory bodies for verification evidence and taking this into account in the Verification Strategy.
Collating Civil or Structural related verification evidence as it is produced to assess design compliance to requirements.
Skills & Qualifications
We are looking for someone with the following:
Degree level qualifications in Civil or Structural Engineering, or closely related discipline.
Become professionally recognised through an appropriate professional body, or be working towards it.
A broad knowledge of Civil and Structural Engineering issues - ideally with experience of the use of analysis and/or physical testing as part of the verification/substantiation of novel structural designs/construction methods.
Experience working with relevant Civil Engineering codes and standards, which might include for example Eurocode 0, 1 & 2, and ACI 318, 349, 350.
A willingness to embrace a Systems Engineering mindset, underpinned with a logical approach to solving complex problems.
A proactive, positive attitude, with the desire and ability to learn fast, challenge the status-quo, and make a difference.
Strong interpersonal and communication skills - able to bring together an interdisciplinary team to solve a problem, and to distil complex technical topics into simple forms.
Experience of working with regulatory bodies such as the UK Office for Nuclear Regulation (ONR) and Environment Agency (EA) is desirable, but not essential.
