Field Engineer

Summary   

To evaluate, design, and estimate natural gas distribution facilities for new business, public and system improvement, and maintenance projects according to company standards and other applicable guidelines and codes. Natural gas distribution facilities may consist of main lines, service lines, and measurement & regulation equipment. The Engineer will provide technical assistance and support for Construction and Field Operations staff involved in the construction, operation, and maintenance of distribution facilities. Collaborate and coordinate efforts with key stakeholders on large distribution projects.

Gas System Design Engineer

Summary

Provide technical advice, assistance, and training necessary for designing, constructing, operating, and maintaining pipelines, measurement, regulation, and related equipment.  Provide detailed designs, estimates, and construction drawings for pipelines, measurement, regulation, and related equipment. Collaborate with peers across NiSource and the industry to ensure effective technical solutions. Maintain strong communications and working relationships with various operating, engineering, and staff departments in an effort to provide needed technical support and direction.

Gas Systems Planning Engineer

Summary

The Gas Systems Planning Engineer will be expected to execute measurable results in gas distribution system analysis, system reliability, long range project planning, and peak demand preparedness to ensure the Company's long-term financial goals are realized.  Collaboration is essential with key stakeholders across NiSource Operating Companies including engineering, construction, finance, energy supply services, operations planning, and local operations.  Key responsibility is to provide planning, guidance, analysis, and recommendations on NiSource's gas distribution systems development and maintenance using hydraulic system studies, system knowledge, and engineering principles.

Pipeline Integrity Engineer

Summary

As part of the NiSource Transmission Integrity Team (TIMP), Engineer I provides technical expertise to solve more complex problems, improve processes and provides direction of work in a specific area of his or her expertise.  Incumbents are expected to develop advanced skills and the ability to work with greater independence.

Instrument & Control Engineer

Summary

Standards Engineer

Summary

Develop and maintain material/equipment, design, installation, operating, and maintenance standards. Support and facilitate design and operating best practices throughout the organization. Support the safety management systems program elements and the principles of process safety. Satisfy current and changing regulatory and compliance requirements through continuous standards review and revision (procedures, materials/equipment). Maintain close communications and working relationships with various operating, engineering, and staff departments in an effort to provide needed technical support and direction.

Gas Control Engineer

Summary 

Under general supervision, the Gas Control Engineer (GC Engr) develops, implements, and evaluates all compliance activities for NiSource in order to ensure compliance with Federal and State regulatory requirements governed by PHMSA, DOT, IURC, and others as required.  This position is also responsible for training and evaluating Gas Control personnel according to the requirements set forth by Control Room Management (CRM) and Operator Qualification (OQ) regulation.  Duties include participating in a 24 hour standby rotation and performing as a Gas Controller or Gas Control Supervisor as necessary.  The GC Engr is a member of the Gas Control Specialist team reporting to the Manger Gas Control in Columbus. The individual selected for this role will be considered the technical SME representing the department in regard to data storage, analytics, and applications used by Gas Control.

Principal Engineer

Summary

Lead complex and non-recurring special projects, initiatives and teams. Deliver technical leadership, process and design standardization, and peer development across NGD engineering. This effort supplements engineering managers and leaders as a leadership resource with responsibilities beyond the expected capabilities of a field engineer 3. The principal engineer will also evaluate, design, and estimate natural gas distribution facilities for new business, public and system improvement, and maintenance projects according to company standards and other applicable guidelines and codes. Natural gas distribution facilities may consist of main lines, service lines, and measurement & regulation equipment. The principal engineer will provide technical assistance and support for Construction and Field Operations staff involved in the construction, operation, and maintenance of distribution facilities. Collaborate and coordinate efforts with key stakeholders on large distribution projects.

***Must have Professional Engineer License to qualify for Principal Engineer***

Required Qualifications for all Gas Engineering Roles:

  • Bachelor's degree in engineering from a 4 year ABET (Accreditation Board for Engineering and Technology) accredited program. 
  • Demonstrated written and oral communication skills.
  • Strong interpersonal skills.
  • Strong organizational and planning skills.
  • Obtain EIT Certification within 2 years of hire date. *
  • Obtain P.E. License within 6 years of hire date for state primarily working in.*
