We are looking for an enthusiastic and ambitious Chartered Civil Engineer for a permanent hybrid position to help plan, design and develop heavy civil engineering projects working from home and the office in Edinburgh. Salary of circa £50-55,000 per annum plus 25 days holiday plus statutory, pension, subsidised healthcare, bonus and flexible hybrid working.

Working as the successful Chartered Civil Engineer you will be working on interesting and significant heavy civil and structural projects. Your background may be in heavy civil engineering such as infrastructure, building structures, dams, bridges, ports, roads, coastal engineering, transportation, heavy industry, environmental or geotechnical engineering, or similar. Your background will include steel, concrete, timber and other design code materials, from inception to design, construction, demolition and recycling and reuse.

You will enjoy the autonomy and responsibility to work on the projects you find interesting, producing proposals and working directly with end Clients, allowing you the opportunity to pick your path and specialism.

Essential requirements:

*Prepare designs and analysis for heavy civil engineering and associated structures, from initial concepts through to detailed designs.

*Collect and collate design data.

*Carry out inspections and surveys.

*Produce design calculations, check and review calculations produced by others.

*Prepare draft Bills of Quantities, Contract Documents and Specifications.

*Prepare reports and presentations.

*Undertake structural analyses and reporting.

*Provide engineering judgement and advice; contribute to preparation of study reports.

*Manage and direct more junior staff.

*Coach junior staff in technical matters.

*Have the desire to manage framework relationships.

*Comfortable when communicating effectively and presenting to team members, clients and stakeholders.

*You will be analytical with the ability to independently undertake design and analysis work with support from senior engineers for complex tasks.

*Degree qualified and a chartered member of a relevant institution, e.g. CEng MICE or CEng IStructE.

*Good communicator (written and verbal).

*Professional experience in planning and design of heavy civils projects.

*You are passionate about developing the next generation of engineers through guiding, mentoring and stimulating those less experienced than you.

Your abilities will include:

*Conceptual Ability - capable of undertaking design from concept to ready for construction.

*Problem Solving - can think laterally and develop solutions to problems with others and on your own.

*Relationship Building - builds a network within the immediate team, and the wider organization and can be a trusted advisor to clients.

It would be an advantage if you can:

*Produce outline models, drawings and details for CAD would be an advantage however detailed drafting/modelling is done by modellers. The ability to view in CAD is required for checking and reviewing prior to issue. In Revit if possible or other software would be fine.

*Personable - approachable, relatable and empathetic.

*Experience in reinforced concrete design and finite element analysis.

*Retaining wall and piling design experience.
