We are seeking a qualified and enthusiastic Principal District Energy / Heat Network Engineer to drive and support the acquisition and delivery of district energy related projects.

Operating from offices in Leeds, Manchester, Newcastle, Sheffield, and Liverpool the Building Services team is part of the Northern Division of our client and is home to a variety of engineering disciplines. You will work with an established building services team and be involved in a wide range of projects including Healthcare, Defence, Transport, Education, and commercial developments.

You will be responsible for feasibility studies, option appraisals, design, specification, site monitoring of district energy systems as part of a multi-disciplinary design team as well as having responsibility for all aspects of assigned project work.

We would love to hear from candidates with relevant district energy and heat network experience. This role is of strategic importance and is to support our growing low/zero carbon workload covering the design and engineering of district heating systems including energy centres and heat networks.

Duties are to include:

Contributing to the development of site-specific energy strategies and the coordinated design of energy centres and heat networks
Designing and reviewing district energy systems at all stages across their design life cycle from inception/concept through to operation
Modelling the technical aspects of district energy plant operations
Undertaking site inspections, snagging and witness of commissioning
Contributing to project budgets, design & construction programmes, project, and health & safety risk registers
Coordinating and planning team resources
Leading inputs into technical and commercial proposals for work winning
Reviewing designs meet client and end user requirements
Client-side Technical Advisor to monitor schemes designed by others on behalf of the client
Being part of the team that develops and manages collaborative client and contractor relationships
Growth of your own specialist knowledge in this sector.
Candidate specification

Chartered Engineer with either CIBSE, IMechE or relevant equivalent.
Experience in HVAC / district heating thermal plant and distribution design.
District Energy/ Heat network experience.
Understanding of variable volume pumping systems & controls
Understanding of heat demand assessment
Understanding of data sets analysis
Understanding and knowledge of GIS mapping systems
Strong interpersonal and organisation skills, able to develop relationships with clients, contractors, suppliers, and other team members.
Planning & monitoring of job resource and expenditure.
Technical Specification writing.
