This role will suit someone exceptional to continue our reputation of delivering a pure driving experience through innovative engineering solutions and light-weighting. With overall responsibility for the technical delivery of all Energy Storage Engineering for in-house programmes and external services, we're looking for a technical leader with experience in senior engineering management.Energy Storage Engineering function will be responsible for:Energy Storage mechanical designEnergy Storage High Voltage designBattery Management Systems and associated hardware and software.Cooling and thermal management.Integration into vehicleEnergy Storage strategy As Chief Engineer of Energy Storage Engineering you will be integral to this process in developing world class technical solutions and capability.Key objectives of the Role:Engineering Delivery and Technical LeadershipComplete concept, detail and final designs for Energy Storage solutions required to deliver vehicle attributes, vehicle robustness, target cost and ease of manufacture.Ensures robust design validation through simulation and optimised physical testingResponsible for Energy Storage engineering gateway delivery to programs.Ensure department deliver to vehicle programs on time, cost and to required quality.Responsible for the release of validated Energy Storage systems and components on time and within specificationsResponsible for defining and maintaining company commodity strategy for Energy Storage components. This will include researching new technologies, innovations and benchmarks.Responsible for technical excellence of the department and ensuring technical robustness of engineering solutions.Implement and maintain the appropriate governance within the department, allowing the right level of autonomy within the group but maintaining accountability to deliver on time and budget.Lead the definition and approve the component technical specifications supporting vehicle targets. Department BudgetManaging annual team operating budget.Preparation of development cost estimates (money and people) projects.Preparation of development cost estimates (money and people) Engineering projects.Management of projects in line with agreed deliverables and resource estimates.Identification of capital investment planning for equipment and facilitiesStaff recruitment and management as required to achieve the programs agreed time and budget PersonnelEnsure team operating to objectives aligned with business targets and goals.Identify team skill requirements, gaps and actions necessary to develop capability.Utilise regular 1:1s and formal review process to performance manage the team.Lead the team through the transitional phase the company is currently progressing through. Motivate and lead by example in order to navigate the team successfully through change.Identify capacity requirements and implement actions accordingly.Where possible drive diversity into the department.Encourage the continued professional development of the department, including training, membership of professional bodies and networking. Processes & StandardsContinuously develop processes and tools to meet world class standards.Develop current Engineering Guidelines to encompass future technologies required for electrified vehicles.Lead the team successfully through the implementation of new business processes that have not been necessary or utilised in the company previously.Business NetworkDevelop collaborative network with other company departments to ensure efficient design methods and maximum part commonality is applied.Able to communicate at all levels in the business from executive to shop floor.Develop and ensure professional relationships with our suppliers, including selection and management. Represent company in relevant industry forums and events including speaking opportunities.Skills and Experience:Ability to build, develop and manage a team Strong relationship builder, with collaborative approach to workDegree or equivalent in Mechanical or Automotive Engineering Proven track record of senior leadership within automotive engineering from OEM or Tier 1 background, with specific experience delivering Energy Storage SystemsStrong experience in Energy Storage development, delivering systems, components and subsystems from concept to productionUnderstanding of OEM vehicle New Product Introduction processesLeadership of automotive project delivery from concept to launchHigh level of technical credibility.Results Driven: Drive for high performance, takes responsibility and works towards planning targets, overcoming obstacles, setbacks and uncertainty.Business Acumen: Aware of company strategy and aligns the strategic priorities of own area with the direction of the business.Decisive: Makes timely, informed decisions balancing the facts, goals, constraints, and risks.Analytical: Gathers relevant information, identify key issues, compare data from different sources; draw balanced conclusions to drive effective solutions.Teamwork: Facilitates collaboration, actively engaging and to make joint decision and share best practices.Global Perspective: Understanding of global market trends and good cultural awareness.
