Senior civil engineer with at least 4 years' experience in the water sector, as per key skills above, required to support key infrastructure projects (relief road, regeneration route). The role involves leading a small team of engineers to deliver a preliminary drainage strategy, where the overall strategy for the entire highway shall be defined and agreed, and the outline drainage design, suitable for the planning submission.
The preliminary drainage strategy shall identify the proposed discharge method and points, attenuation volumes and locations and highway runoff drainage system. The strategy will identify the principles through which surface water discharge at the site could be managed for all catchments. This will include identifying an appropriate method of surface water disposal along with establishing discharge rates, likely drainage paths and identification of suitable SuDS locations. The strategy will also provide an initial storage estimate of required attenuation volumes using a conceptual drainage network.
Following confirmation and agreement of the preliminary drainage strategy, the outline design of the drainage shall be completed. Based on the conceptual model, MicroDrainage networks will be developed to demonstrate that the outline design is technically feasible within the site parameters and constraints. These models will include the main pipe runs, storage features and flow controls, as well as downstream conditions such as surcharged outfalls, based upon the flood risk work by the Water team. The results from the modelling and associated calculations will be used to support the proposed design and demonstrate that surface water from the site can be adequately managed. Pipe and gully design shall be in accordance with the DMRB and MCHW as well as the latest Sewerage Sector Guidance, and SuDS features in accordance with CIRIA C753 guidance.
Drainage and earthworks design shall be carried out in 3D within AutoCAD Civil 3D in line with BIM Level 2. Drawings illustrating the proposed outline design, as well as relevant schedules and typical details shall be provided. In addition, a preliminary Bill of Quantities shall be completed. A technical note shall be provided to summarise the maintenance and management for the drainage system
