SOUTHERN ILLINOIS UNIVERSITY CARBONDALE. The School of Civil, Environmental and Infrastructure Engineering at SIU Carbondale invites applications for a full-time, continuing, tenure-track faculty position in the area of Environmental Engineering at the rank of Assistant Professor. SIU Carbondale is located in Carbondale, Illinois and enrolls approximately 12,000 students.  The School of Civil, Environmental and Infrastructure Engineering is one of the six schools within the College of Engineering, Computing, Technology and Mathematics. The School offers Bachelor of Science (BS), Master of Science (MS) and Master of Engineering (ME) degrees in Civil Engineering. The School also offers BS in Civil Engineering with a specialization in Environmental Engineering. A Ph.D. in Engineering Science degree is offered through the College.  The BS in Civil Engineering program is accredited by the Engineering Accreditation Commission of ABET, http://www.abet.org. The School has 10 faculty members, approximately 75 undergraduate students and 35 graduate students. 

The School provides support and excellent opportunities for the development of new faculty. Duties and responsibilities for the position include:

  • Teach undergraduate and graduate level courses as assigned by the school director.
  • Actively participate in the senior design course.
  • Develop an externally funded research program in environmental engineering.
  • Carry out research and supervise the work of M.S., M.E., and Ph.D. students.
  • Actively participate in scholarly activities by publishing the results of her/his research in peer-reviewed journals and conference proceedings.
  • Collaborate with other faculty on research and professional development activities
  • Provide service to the department, college, university, and profession. This includes participation in international and national professional society activities.

Qualifications: Applicants must have an undergraduate degree in Civil Engineering or a closely related engineering field, and an earned doctorate in Civil Engineering or a closely related engineering field with a specialization in the area of Environmental Engineering by the time of appointment at SIU Carbondale. ABD applicants will be considered if all requirements for the Ph.D. will be completed by August 15, 2023. Applicants must have a demonstrated potential for high quality research and teaching undergraduate and graduate courses in general Civil Engineering and Environmental Engineering with research documented by publications and or funded projects. Special consideration will be given to applicants with professional experience in industry and/or academia. Professional engineer licensure is desirable and will be required for tenure.
