Faculty Position IN the Lyles SCHOOL OF CIVIL ENGINEERING

The Lyles School of Civil Engineering at Purdue University invites applications for a tenure-track faculty position at the rank of Assistant or Associate Professor. Purdue University seeks to attract exceptional candidates with interests and expertise in structural engineering. This includes but is not limited to large-scale static and dynamic testing, use of innovative materials in efficient structural designs and systems, structural mechanics applied to numerical modeling and benchmarking using test results, design philosophies including performance-based design approaches, considerations of sustainability and resilience in design, construction processes and influence of flaws on performance. Applicants who have a strong interest and expertise in the structural engineering area of hardened infrastructure are of particular interest. Hardened infrastructure refers to structures (buildings, bridges, mission-critical facilities, operational facilities etc.) used in defense and / or security applications, power generation, energy storage and transmission applications, and other applications critical to the nation’s growth, security, and pre-eminence. This includes structures that are critical to safe and efficient operation of our local, state, and federal governments subjected to natural hazards or human-induced extreme events. The durability of hardened infrastructure to challenging environmental conditions over their design life is also of interest.  Successful candidates must hold an earned Ph.D. degree in Civil Engineering or a related discipline and demonstrate potential to build an independent research program, as well as potential to educate and mentor students.  The successful candidate will conduct original research, advise graduate students, teach undergraduate and graduate level courses, and perform service at the School, College, and University levels.
