Columbia Engineering is pleased to invite applications for a tenure-track Assistant Professor position in the Department of Civil Engineering & Engineering Mechanics (CEEM) at Columbia University in the City of New York. 

The CEEM Department welcomes applications in the field of Computational Intelligence for an integrated Built Environment/Earth System. Representative areas of interest include (i) climate-aware sustainable and equitable infrastructure design and optimization (dynamic downscaling of climate data to optimize building performance, fluid-structure interaction for building resiliency in the context of climate change, machine learning for infrastructure-atmosphere/hydrosphere interaction in the face of hurricanes and storm surges), and (ii) smart and energy-efficient buildings (structural design and efficient multiscale modeling, heating and cooling via geothermal energy, structural design for CO2 reduction, smart materials for buildings). 

Qualifications

Candidates must have a Ph.D. or its professional equivalent by the starting date of the appointment. Applicants for this position must demonstrate the potential to do pioneering research and to teach effectively. The Department is especially interested in qualified candidates who can contribute, through their research, teaching, and/or service, to the diversity and excellence of the academic community.

The successful candidate is expected to contribute to the advancement of the Computational and Data-Driven Engineering Mechanics field and to the Department by developing an original and leading externally funded research program, and to contribute to the undergraduate and graduate educational mission of the CEEM Department. Columbia fosters multidisciplinary research and encourages collaborations with academic departments and units across Columbia University.
