The Department of Civil Engineering at McGill University invites applications for two tenure-track positions, one in Transportation Engineering and the other in Structural / Materials Engineering, preferably at the Assistant Professor level.

Qualifications and Education Requirements (Transportation Engineering position):

Candidates must have a Doctorate (Ph.D. or equivalent), with a first degree in Civil Engineering. Evidence of outstanding research achievements, or research potential, is indispensable. We are particularly interested in candidates with research and teaching expertise in the future of urban mobility and smart systems. Research areas of interest include, but are not limited to: transportation automation and electrification, shared mobility, urban transportation systems modeling and simulation, traffic flow theory, emerging highway technologies, resilience, public transportation planning and operations, freight management, and energy efficiency and emissions modeling. A strong background in computer-simulation modeling in transportation engineering, optimization, and/or machine learning is required. Candidates must demonstrate the potential for interdisciplinary research connecting transportation engineering with infrastructure, sustainable design and/or climate change. The potential to carry out collaborative research across Departments and Schools at the University, and to develop links with internal / external organizations such as TISED, CIRRELT, GERAD, CDSI and IVADO, is an asset.

Qualifications and Education Requirements (Structural / Materials Engineering position):

Candidates must have a Doctorate (Ph.D. or equivalent), with a first degree in Civil Engineering. Evidence of outstanding research achievements, or research potential, is indispensable. We are particularly interested in candidates with a doctorate in structural / materials engineering, having demonstrated research and teaching expertise in one or more of the following disciplines: numerical–physical–hybrid testing of structural systems, construction material informatics, data driven structural-material design and infrastructure condition assessment and monitoring. A strong background in experimental and numerical research, with links to the development of building/design codes and sustainable / resilient design is required. Experience in numerical modelling, structural evaluation and rehabilitation, and seismic design and performance, will be considered as an asset, along with the capability to teach advanced courses in structural stability, solid mechanics and materials, and / or finite element analysis.
