We are currently looking for a Permanent Geotechnical Engineer to join the team. The role will support the Engineering community across the business and embedded alliances by enabling critical decision making in the creation of new assets, as well as supporting the extension and re-use of existing assets and land area.

The role will work closely with a diverse group ranging from some major capital investments in securing the regions long term water needs through to medium capital schemes and supporting long term assessment of business-critical assets.

You will work in close partnership with our Innovation Team and their drive towards reducing carbon by reducing waste and promoting material re-use; supporting our drive towards being a carbon neutral business by 2030.

You will offer, where needed, technical supervision of ground investigation fieldworks and liaison with ground investigation contractors.

Interpretation and verification of ground investigation data including presentation of appropriate ground model, development of geotechnical design parameters and presentation of ground risks.

Where needed, Liaison with wider non specialist project team members (design and construction) to develop best-value engineering designs and clearly communicate identified project ground risks and suitable mitigation.

Offer support and guidance, where necessary, to temporary works designers in both planned and emergency works.

What does it take to be a Geotechnical Engineer?
  • Strong academic background, with a good civil engineering, geology or related bachelor's degree (BEng/BSc) and a higher degree in geotechnical engineering or engineering geology (MEng/MSc)
  • Strong geotechnical and engineering geology design competencies, ideally in the water/wastewater sector
  • A good understanding of CDM and its application
  • Good communication, report writing, team working and problem-solving skills
  • Design & Build experience preferable
  • Experience liaising closely with construction teams
  • Competent in the use of industry standard geotechnical design software (e.g., Slope/W, Seep/W, gINT, Leapfrog Works, Settle 3D)
  • Working towards Chartership through a relevant Institution (ICE/IOM3/GeolSoc)
