ABOUT THIS POSITION

The City is offering a $7,500 hiring incentive to new hires for Civil Engineer III which will be paid in accordance with A.R. 2.55.

The Civil Engineer III manages consultants, supervises City staff, and performs project management duties for the Street Transportation Department Development Coordination Group.  Duties include project design, cost estimating, construction administration, and supervision of design activities; oversee compliance with standards, contracts, construction plans, and specifications for CIP projects in the City's municipal infrastructures; perform project management oversight for long range transportation planning studies and funding strategies; and participate and advise on City initiated Infrastructure Financing programs.  

Additional duties include:

  • Overseeing design and construction of both federally and locally funded CIP projects outside of the right-of-way.
  • Producing, reading, reviewing, and interpreting plans and drawings.
  • Producing and reviewing cost estimates.
  • Producing and interpreting project specifications.
  • Advising on technical aspects of project design and construction documents.
  • Writing correspondence to vendors and consultants.
  • Reviewing construction document submittals.
  • Material submittals and pay estimates.
  • Preparing documentation for senior City staff.

IDEAL CANDIDATE

  • Proficient using Microsoft Office programs.
  • Knowledge of construction methods, materials and practices used in municipal Right-of-Way construction projects.
  • Consultant oversight experience in administering transportation studies and designs.

SALARY

$70,969.60 - $107,910.40 annually.  Candidates may be hired up to $107,910.40 depending upon qualifications.  

BENEFITS

Pension Information

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

  • Four years of experience in the practice of civil engineering or architecture.
  • One year of experience supervising professional and technical staff.
  • Bachelor's degree in civil engineering or a related engineering degree.
  • Other combinations of experience and education that meet the minimum requirements may be substituted.
  • Must be registered in the State of Arizona as a Professional Engineer with proficiency in civil engineering by the end of the probationary period.

Individuals must be physically capable of operating the vehicles safely, possess a valid driver's license and have an acceptable driving record. PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS

The minimum qualifications listed above, plus:

  • Project management experience in complex capital improvement projects.
  • Experience managing consultants and contractor staff for CIP projects.
  • Civil Engineering design experience related to construction on municipal facilities.
  • Current Arizona Professional Engineer registration preferred.
