Our client is a leading consultancy who provide engineering and professional planning services to the power sector. They specialise in the design and survey of Overhead Lines, Underground Cables, and Substation Systems from LV to EHV in the UK and internationally.
The role
We are looking for a Geotechnical Engineer to report into the Principle Overhead Line Design Engineer, who will provide technical and commercial support for the full project management of multiple overhead line projects, including managing staff and delegating tasks to ensure the achievement of all deliverables in a timely manner, financial management and budget control.
This role will represent and support the local DNO on overhead line projects working in a collaborative manner with the selected contractor to ensure quality is achieved and costs are kept within budget. You will also be able to provide technical input and help solve technical problems adding value to the client, aiding the project's success.

- Supervising and monitoring the foundation assessment works
- Carrying out site inspections on workmanship, materials, finishes, reinstatement and testing to ensure compliance with drawing & specifications
- Provide answers to civil engineering related technical queries raised by the client
- Review and comment on working methods and techniques proposed by the contractor
- Modification to construction drawings works
- Monitor site progress
- Site photos taken on a daily basis
- Prepare & maintain a daily report/progress photo and log of onsite progress
- Compilation of detailed site measurements and information to allow review of monthly payment applications
- Reporting for any potential delay of programme
- Ensuring the contractors work in a safe manner (Completion of Safety Audits - 1 per week)
- Direct liaison with client customers and landowners affected by the works
- Direct liaison with other statutory undertakers
- Compilation of information required to complete monthly contractor KPI performance reviews
- Assist clients in any civil engineering related matters as required to complete the project
- Preparation of schedule of activities, specifications, scheme budgets, scheme fees, target costs, and project programmes
- Undertake feasibility, desk study and site reconnaissance
- Arrange and supervise subcontractors and ensure their works are completed in a safe manner and to time and budget
- Preparation and review of factual and interpretive reports
The candidate
We are looking for an ambitious and dynamic individual with a passion for green energy.
- HNC or higher in Civil/Geotechnical Engineering with a minimum of 5 years post graduate experience within the construction industry
- Experience of reading, interpreting and assessing against civil engineering related specifications and drawings
- Experience of ground investigation and concrete testing
- Experience in compiling comprehensive site records
- Experience of completing daily progress reports
- Good verbal and written communication skills
- Stakeholder/public liaison skills
- Must have a valid UK car driving licence (or one acceptable to our clients insurers)
