The Construction Management (CM) Department in the College of Architecture & Environmental Design at California Polytechnic State University, San Luis Obispo, is seeking applications for a tenure track assistant professor position. The CM Department is a tight-knit group of faculty and staff working to provide students with the best possible education and the help they need to succeed academically and prepare for the challenges they can expect in the professional world. REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS

Required qualifications:

  1. A master's degree in construction or a construction-related field from an accredited institution.
  2. 5 years relevant professional experience in the United States construction industry or comparable international experience. Individuals with an earned doctorate in construction or a construction-related field shall receive credit for the equivalent of two years of professional construction experience.
  3. Ability to communicate effectively, work cooperatively with students, faculty, staff, and administrators from diverse ethnic, cultural, and socioeconomic backgrounds, conduct themselves professionally, and perform appropriate service functions at the department, college, and university levels.
  4. Specialization in a scholarly area that addresses diversity topics applicable to the construction industry.
  5. Demonstrated experience working with underrepresented students in research, teaching, service, advising, mentoring, or community engagement.
  6. Demonstrated experience related to diversity and inclusive teaching strategies.
  7. Demonstrated experience and commitment to student-centered learning and teaching, as well as the ability to work collaboratively in multidisciplinary settings.
  8. Demonstrated proficiency in written and oral use of the English language.

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS

Preferred qualifications:

  1. Demonstrated record of scholarly activities or demonstrated ability and commitment to pursue scholarly activities that will contribute to the field of construction management.
  2. Professional certifications or licenses related to the construction industry.
  3. 3 years of relevant professional experience in project management or a supervisory capacity.
  4. Relevant teaching experience, with preference given to teaching experience in higher education.
  5. Preference will be given to those with experience in working with diverse populations and fostering a collaborative, supportive and inclusive environment.

SPECIAL CONDITIONS

The person holding this position is considered a 'mandated reporter' under the California Child Abuse and Neglect Reporting Act and is required to comply with the requirements set forth in CSU Executive Order 1083 as a condition of employment.

ABOUT THE DEPARTMENT

The Construction Management Department is one of five departments in Cal Poly’s College of Architecture and Environmental Design. It offers an ACCE-accredited, 4-year bachelor of science in construction management degree program, a minor in construction management, and sponsors interdisciplinary minors in heavy civil construction and real property development. The Department maintains close ties with industry and takes pride in its career-oriented programs focused on practical application. As part of the college’s commitment to interdisciplinary collaboration, Construction Management partners with Architecture, Architectural Engineering, City and Regional Planning, Civil Engineering and Landscape Architecture. The Department currently has 16 full-time faculty, 8 part-time faculty and over 590 undergraduate majors.
