Marine Engineering & Systems

The Commissioning Engineer - Structural role is based within Marine Engineering & Systems.

At our site in Rosyth, we aim to deliver engineering-led and world-leading products and services across our engineering, specialised manufacturing, gas handling systems and naval marine businesses.

The role

The difference our new Commissioning Engineer - Structural will make

As a Commissioning Engineer - Structural you'll have a role that's out of the ordinary. Ensuring all documents meet project configuration control and Quality Assurance processes.

Day to day, you'll analyse problems related to plant and support system issues, generate & submit solutions complete with all documentation and seek appropriate signatures & approvals as required, monitor progress, record test results, witness final testing and acceptance of equipment consistent with design, performance, safety, quality and technical specifications, ensure that all documents meet project configuration control and Quality Assurance processes, coach and mentor more junior or less experienced staff, ensure that they understand the systems and protocols associated with the work and task; ensure that their work is reviewed and providing a checking and verification service for work of other commissioning engineers and drive a Quality learning culture, recognising Best Practice and ensuring continuous implementation of improvement ideas

Essential experience

Key Skills and Experience

* Critical thinking - using logic and reasoning to identify the strengths and weaknesses of alternative solutions, conclusions or approaches to problems.
* Excellent analytical, problem solving and organisational skills.
* Load testing of mechanical lifting devices, eye plates and link plates is essential
* Experience in pneumatic and hydro testing of structural vessels, piping systems is essential
* Experience in commissioning of plant, equipment, and installations to verify performance in accordance with project & programme requirements
* Experienced in creating and maintaining test documentation and analysing test results
* Experience of writing safety documentation including Risk assessments, method statements, process and procedures and managing hazards through to 'Broadly Acceptable or Tolerable' and 'ALARP' status
* Ability to work hand in hand with subcontractors and ensuring safe systems of work are enacted.

Company/Industry Knowledge:

* Good understanding/experience of working in an Engineering environment.
* Experience in the ship build/marine industry desirable.

Qualifications:

* The candidate should have one or more of the following:
* HNC/HND level qualification in a structural or mechanical engineering discipline with experience in relevant field.
* Membership of a recognised professional institution
* UK Security cleared or able to achieve UK clearance.
* Obtain or have the ability to obtain SC Clearance
