Job Details
The Department of Civil and Systems Engineering (CaSE) in the Whiting School of Engineering (WSE) at the Johns Hopkins University (JHU) is seeking multiple faculty candidates at all levels to lead impactful research programs that address societal grand challenges identified by CaSE, including: resilient cities, space exploration and habitation, decision-making and health, human safety and security, and our future energy infrastructure. Aligned with WSE and JHU initiatives, CaSE has particular interest in foundational or applied candidates with strength in energy, sustainability, and/or artificial intelligence. In addition to joining the vibrant group of faculty in CaSE, candidates will have the opportunity to collaborate with and leverage new university-wide initiatives in artificial intelligence (AI-X) and sustainable energy (ROSEI) as well as additional CaSE affiliated centers and institutes.
Working across numerous scales from atomistic to global, and across traditional disciplines in civil and systems engineering, CaSE faculty are connected by a collective desire to bring engineering solutions to society’s largest challenges. With a history of novel research in computational modeling, optimization, and uncertainty quantification in physics-based and data-based simulation, CaSE faculty enable engineers, decision-makers, and the public to find solutions. The successful candidate will have an orientation towards impactful research that addresses the CaSE grand challenges and aligns with the targeted areas in energy, sustainability and/or artificial intelligence, a strong desire to impact society in a positive manner through research and service, and excellent communication skills.
The university and search committee are committed to hiring candidates who will contribute to the diversity of our academic community. We affirm the dignity and equality of all persons and serious efforts are being made to increase diversity, address equity, and create an inclusive environment at CaSE and JHU. The University is an Affirmative Action/Equal Opportunity Employer of women, minorities, protected veterans and individuals with disabilities and encourages applications from these and other protected group members.
