Akton are recruiting on behalf of a client who are looking for talented and enthusiastic Civil Engineers to enhance their multi-disciplinary practice in Solihull. They are looking for people who relish diversity of work and a chance to deliver value and sustainable solutions.

You will play an integral role, within a welcoming, talented team, in the delivery and growth of civil & infrastructure design services.

You will be supported to achieve Chartership and have the opportunity to work as a member of a diverse range of project design teams, comprising engineers and design specialists across many fields.

Their team works on a wide variety of projects involving design of roads, levels, drainage, and external works in both the public and private realm. They deliver projects for a wide range of clients including F1 Teams, residential, logistics hubs, innovative workplace schemes, healthcare, and retail. Their work is hugely rewarding, making a positive difference to people and the environment, as well as pushing the boundaries of digital innovation.

Role and Responsibilities

Undertaking investigations, feasibility studies, preliminary and detailed design, site inspections, data collection and analysis, and works/construction inspection and supervision.
Preparation of flood risk assessments (FRA's), Drainage Strategies and calculations for planning and other statutory consents.
Production of levels, drainage, and external works packages for projects of varying scales from initial concept through to completion.
Working closely with other professional on multi-discipline projects
Attend external meetings with clients and fellow professionals
Provide a day-to-day client interface including conducting site visits for technical assessment or problem-solving

Experience and Skills Required

You will have a keen interest in developing your understanding and ability in civil engineering design and a willingness to research and take on new challenges. You will be able to work independently and use your engineering judgement to tackle day to day problems, delegate tasks and show a desire to develop junior members of the team. You will show a desire to develop your project coordination skills and an understanding about other discipline roles on projects.

Desirable experience:

Experience in a similar role, ideally within a private practice working on predominantly private developments.
Drainage layout and modelling (foul and surface water) and private roadway design
Design of external works for private sites including vertical and horizontal setting out
Knowledge of industry standard design software packages AutoCAD, Civil 3D and MicroDrainage.
Delivering schemes with section agreements (S38/S278/S104)
Liaising with both internal and external bodies, including planning authorities, statutory undertakers, and national bodies such as the Environment Agency
