Dumfries and Galloway Council's Roads & Infrastructure service are looking to recruit a Graduate Civil Engineer (Bridges) (2 No. posts) to work within the Engineering Design Team.

Based at Cargen Tower, Dumfries you will assist and provide support, to Senior Officers in the design preparation and delivery of various infrastructure projects as part of the Engineering Design service. (These projects will include bridges, retaining structures, flood protection, harbours and coastal protection works). Working as part of a team of engineers and technicians, this position would suit an enthusiastic, committed and self-motivated individual who would relish the opportunity to help in the project management of infrastructure schemes from design through to construction and gain valuable experience in the process.

A minimum qualification to Degree level in Civil Engineering (or equivalent) is essential. Qualification to Honours or Masters level is desirable.

Knowledge of bridge design standards and specifications is essential along with ability to use Microsoft Office Software packages. Use of AutoCAD and experience in topographical surveying or other design-related activities would be an advantage. Experience of working in an office environment and in a team situation is desirable.

An understanding and knowledge of current Health & Safety legislation in particular CDM Regulations , Quality Management Systems and Local Government would be desirable.

This permanent full-time position will begin by working in a blended approach between working from home and at our Cargen Tower office in Dumfries.

You must be flexible, self motivated, able to work under pressure to deadlines, possess good organisational skills and have the confidence to deal with other staff, the public and contractors. You should be a team player with good oral/written communication skills.

A current full driving licence is essential and the ability to travel and have access to a vehicle or transport is essential.

Salary Band is 7 to 9 and the starting band will be determined based on the qualifications and experience of the successful candidate.
