Product Environmental Engineer

Multiple Thales Locations, Hybrid Working

Main Responsibilities

Developing and delivering Environmental/Eco-design plans based on environmental managers vision & strategy

Developing Environmental/Eco-design governance updates and presents to stakeholders

Supporting Environmental/Eco-design managers by conducting directed tasks

Conducting life cycle assessments of products and/or processes to provide a framework for strategic decision-making

Providing expertise on the Life Cycle Assessment by contributing to Eco-design R&D and continuous improvement

Evaluating and optimising the production processes to reduce environmental footprint

Ensuring products are designed in accordance with environmental legislation, regulations and standards while considering costs and quality

Providing Environmental/Eco-design advice and guidance to Product/System/Services (PSS) development teams

Appling Environmental/Eco-design policy and Environmental Management System processes to PSS

Selecting and prioritising the parameters for evaluation considering timing, complexity, re-use strategy etc.

Deploying maturity assessments regarding Environmental/eco-design practices and provide corresponding support

Understanding and explaining the main environmental problems to varying stakeholders including engineering, project management etc.

Improving the environmental performance of Thales products

Experience

Familiar with environmental management systems, such as ISO 14001

Good working knowledge of production processes, materials and their characteristics

Experience in assessing and modelling of environmental impacts

Knowledge of global environmental & sustainability issues in the context of ESG

Familiar with Environmental/eco-design strategies and the associated regulatory standards

Familiar with POEMS or other similar environmental engineering processes

Understands the carbon footprint of a solution and can provide a solution evaluation (qualitative & quantitative)

Understands and can evaluate the effects of a solution on several environmental impact categories

Good working knowledge of key Environmental/eco-design principles (strategies, models, best practices etc.)

IEMA Practitioner (or working towards)

A good team player also comfortable while working autonomously

Rigorous, analytical and synthetic

Demonstrate good interpersonal skills and foster collaborative work

Efficient communicator

Education

Essential: Bachelor Degree (BEng, BSc) in a Numerate, Scientific or Engineering subject or Higher

Desirable: Masters Degree (MEng, MSc) or postgraduate level in Engineering, Environmental Management, Sustainability or Mathematics-related subject is an advantage.

In line with Thales' Baseline Security requirements, candidates will be asked to provide evidence of identity, eligibility to work in the UK and employment and/or education history for up to three years.
