About the Role

Base Location: Slough Power Station

Working Pattern: Permanent | Full Time |

The role holder reports to the Engineering Manager and will provide the technical lead on all mechanical assets and to ensure the compliance with statuary regulations such as PSSR and to continually improve the reliability and productivity of the power station by reducing forced outages and all forms of waste. Management of the scope and process of the plant outages and continual improvement of asset integrity, mechanical expertise and competence to deliver a high standard of work execution on station mechanical equipment, that ensures the safety, reliability, flexibility and efficiency of plant and equipment is maintained to meet the Company's requirements.

As a key member of the engineering team, the role holder is expected to make significant contributions to the delivery of the site maintenance and outage workscopes.

Main tasks and responsibilities are:
  • Day to day maintenance of station mechanical assets including monitoring requirements for inspections to comply with statutory needs and align these with the most cost effective timing for minimum financial impact
  • To communicate engineering and process needs directly to the Engineers to enable the rapid repair of plant and to ensure reliability of equipment through a pro-active programme of maintenance and projects
  • Manage the day to day asbestos requirements on site in conjunction with the contract that provides this..
  • Carry out reactive and proactive work as required, in conjunction with Engineers.
  • Contributing towards the delivery of projects in alignment with the SSE and station strategies including financial justification preparation, specification, procurement, implementation, and commissioning.
  • The instruction and management of contractor resource to deliver work in accordance with SHE, technical and commercial requirements.
  • Deliver requirements of the SSE SHP Business Plan as required

What do I need?
  • Appropriate understanding of the business processes necessary to operate, maintain and control power plants
  • In depth knowledge of the operation of boilers, turbines and ancillary equipment to contribute to engineering discussion on plant failures and operational deficiencies and their solutions
  • Ideally a Degree in relevant mechanical engineering discipline
  • Educated to a minimum standard of HNC or equivalent and have served a recognised apprenticeship in Mechanical Engineering.
  • Strong planning skills to manage site outages in line with SSE outage excellence with experience in the use of Maximo for work control
  • Management on a day to day basis of maintenance resources (workshop) in line with requirements of the station, reporting directly back to Engineering manger.
