The Opportunity: Senior Water Engineer (Flood Risk and Modelling)

Arup is a global design and business consulting firm. We strive for valuable, holistic solutions that are sustainable over time and that make people's lives better. As consultants for two of the Environment Agency's Collaborative Delivery Framework hubs, North East and Midlands, we are assisting with the appraisal and delivery of a major programme of capital schemes to reduce flood risk. We are currently looking for experienced, Senior Water Engineers. The successful candidates could choose to be located either in Newcastle, Edinburgh, Glasgow or Belfast. About you:

Our candidate will be reporting directly to the team management, alongside existing senior staff, this role will involve guiding on a range of technical tasks. As well as providing technical guidance, mentoring and supervision of more junior staff members, and delivering an active engagement in skills capacity building in technical appraisal across the firm. In addition, you will develop reports, and provide a design/review of engineering solutions and implementation. You will develop a technical flood alleviation scheme appraisal using the FCERM-AG. Furthermore, you will guide in the development and design of fluvial flood risk management solutions. Our candidate will manage project teams to ensure the production of deliverables such as quality, timeliness, and budget. In addition, you will coordinate staff resources between projects and support senior management in business and technical development. Aside from an engineering focus we welcome applications with a modelling background. With a focus on being responsible for technically managing a range of flood modelling and water resource schemes, we would look for a collaborative and engaging individual, to support on the preparation of reports, design/review of engineering solutions, models and implementation. This is a vibrant and dynamic role, which would suit an individual, passionate about both the environment and the use of digital tools and models.

Is this role right for you?
  • Experience in contract administration, client liaison and project management
  • Experience in hydraulic modelling and/or hydrology for fluvial flood risk.
  • Technical experience in FCERM project appraisal, options development, and outline design. We are happy to accept candidates with a Hydraulic and Flood Modelling background.
  • Experience in the use of GID, TuFlow, INFOWORKS ICM and other industry standard software.
  • A relevant undergraduate degree, with a master's or equivalent experience
  • Chartered status with either ICE or CIWEM or willing to pursue professional registration.
