Placement civil engineer - Year in Industry 2023 (London or Southwest)
Get your career on track (or on motorways, building sites, bridges...) at Skanska.
We are looking for enthusiastic Commercial students to join our Year in Industry 2023 placement and help us shape the future within our Building operating unit in London or the Southwest.
The Opportunity
You will join the team which delivers buildings that improve communities and enhances lives across the UK. You will help build its success and reputation for delivering high quality projects in commercial and mixed-used developments across healthcare, custodial, education and defence sectors.
Our award-winning public-sector projects include Bath Spa University, 52 Lime Street, Bristol Schools, and the Royal London Hospitals to name a few. Our expertise in London has created a portfolio that includes some of the capital's iconic buildings, such as The Gherkin and Heron Tower
Skanska's Year in Industry placements are a great opportunity to put everything you are learning during your college studies or university qualifications and put this into action through on-the-job training.
They can help develop your practical and professional skills, clarify your career ambitions, and gain relevant experience on real-life business projects.
Location: You will join our London or Southwest (Gloucester/ Bristol) teams. Please specify your preferred location.

What you'll learn:
- Plan and produce methodologies for mobilising and setting up sections of work
- Utilise surveying skills to set out details for construction
- Work with subcontractors to ensure the timely preparation and implementation of Risk Assessments & Method Statements, Inspection Test Plans, Permits & Consents
- Site coordination and logistical planning to enable works to be carried out safely
- Identify the needs for temporary works and completing temporary work designs working with the temporary works team
- Maintain a high standard of Quality Control and Quality Assurance records, including managing Non-Conformance Reports and Early Warning Notices
- Produce accurate and detailed daily diaries for your work areas
- Work collaboratively with enabling teams, for example in Traffic Management, Earthworks, Utilities and Community Relations
- Complete environmental risk assessments for works and assist in managing works activities in an ecologically sensitive manner
- Site Setting out duties - Line and level

Who you are:
- Studying towards a Civil Engineering degree accredited by the ICE
- Have excellent communications skills and attention to detail
- Values driven and passionate about sustainability
- Enthusiastic about learning and developing new ways of thinking
