Energy Futures Project Engineer

Salary From: £40,798

Up to 10% Bonus

Fixed Term Contract for 18 months

Location: Leeds, Thorpe Park

We have an exciting opportunity to join our Energy futures team and our ambition is to deliver projects that are more innovative and ambitious than any ever considered before!

You will be responsible for the delivery of a range of net zero programmes of work. The work will be focused on hydrogen conversion feasibility of GB natural gas networks with an emphasis on the system downstream of the meter. Technical evidence, innovation and the updating of existing legislation and regulations will be essential to allow a conversion to 100% hydrogen happen and you will be key to delivering this for NGN. You will possess extensive experience in downstream gas safe installations including at both domestic and Industrial & Commercial buildings. You will be self-motivated and possess a drive to think outside of the box in the execution of pioneering technological solutions for a future downstream hydrogen gas system. A combination of engineering and digital solutions as well as training and competency assurance will be key to Network decarbonisation plans and you could be the person help shape the future in these areas as we move towards net zero by 2050.

Key Accountabilities

• End to end project delivery including scoping, tendering, obtaining financial approval, and delivery in line with Ofgem and NGN governance requirements

• Development of downstream hydrogen standards including training, and competency specifications to enable short term and wider roll out of hydrogen conversion to Domestic and Industrial and Commercial users. This will require collaboration with wider industry bodies such as IGEM, BEIS, HSE, and gas networks.

• Develop and manage relationships with both key external and internal stakeholders and suppliers.

• Support NGNs wider Energy Future's Hydrogen project portfolio with focus predominantly on the system downstream of the meter.

• Publish and present project progress reports to the wider Energy Futures team and key external stakeholders

• Chair regular meetings and ensure minutes are recorded and actions issued and closed out efficiently

• Manage project budgets ensuring any delivery or commercial risks are identified and mitigated in a timely manner

• Represent NGN on industry wide collaborative steering groups with focus on end use of hydrogen in homes and business's

What we are looking for

• Significant experience in downstream gas safe installations, legislation, and regulations such as GS(UI)R, Gas Acts, Gas Appliances (Safety) Regulations and Building regulations.

• ACS qualification.

• A logical and methodical approach to problem solving with the ability to concentrate and follow issues through to a satisfactory outcome.

• Experience of upstream gas networks (desirable but not critical)

• Ideally hold professional membership grade with IGEM

• Experience of managing multiple stakeholders including BEIS, HSE, Ofgem and delivery partners.

• Able to work to challenging deadlines under pressure

• Ability to process, interpret and articulate complex technical data

• Ability and desire to operate under your own direction

• Extensive understanding of wider industry legislation and regulatory requirements

• Full UK driving license
