We are currently looking for Senior Civil Structural Engineer to join a specialist manufacturing based in Manchester.

The Responsibilities for the Senior Civil Structural Engineer

Job Purpose

The purpose of the role is to competently perform the assigned technical engineering activities, ensuring the work is executed in a consistent, timely and cost-effective manner. The role may also include leading small teams on projects as required.

Key Responsibilities And Duties

Functional (Process/Technical/Operational)
  • Comply with the Company Management System and QHSE requirements.
  • Implement assigned engineering work within the budget and project timescale.
  • Prepare engineering deliverables in accordance with Company Management System, current legislation, project requirements and international standards. Check deliverables produced by others.
  • Provide technical information in support of the project team.
  • Attend technical design/project reviews to ensure compliance with customers' needs and QHSE requirements.

  • Commercial awareness of the impact of changes in scope, budget and schedule overruns.
  • Manage scope, budgets and schedules as required.
  • Identify and communicate cost reduction and schedule improvement opportunities.

  • Understand customer needs and ensure that they are being satisfied.
  • Active communication with all customers to promote clear understanding.
  • Develop good customer relationships (internal and external).

  • Lead Engineer

  • Fabricator / Site Contractor Representatives
  • Client Representatives

The Requirements for the Senior Civil Structural Engineer

Knowledge and Skills Base
  • Expand and maintain knowledge of the latest standards, legislation, products and practices relating to the relevant engineering discipline to reinforce professional competency.
  • Identify and present training and learning opportunities (both individual and departmental) for consideration.

  • Have a positive view about others, their abilities and potential

Qualifications, Certifications And Experience

Required Skills
  • Up-to date knowledge of key civil and structural design and engineering techniques and their applications.
  • Up-to date knowledge of civil and structural international standards applicable to petrochemical process plants.
  • Creative problem definition and problem-solving skills.
  • Good technical and non-technical communication skills, both written and oral.
  • Ability to work as part of a group and on individual tasks within a larger team.
  • Good command of MS Office applications.
  • Good command of, and experience with, industry standard visualisation and calculation tools (e.g. Navis works / STAAD Pro / RAM Elements / MathCaD / SAP 2000 / Tekla etc.)
  • At least 5 years of experience in civil and structural engineering, construction or other technical roles.

Preferred Skills
  • 10+ years of experience in various civil and structural engineering, construction, fabricator or other technical roles with at least 5 years of experience in a multidisciplinary petrochemical design environment.
  • Experience in civil and structural design for plastic plants (e.g. LDPE, LLDPE, HPDE).
  • High pressure experience, including foundations and structures with large reciprocating machinery and significant dynamic loading.
  • Site experience (e.g. construction, site troubleshooting, site survey, fabricator shop etc.).
  • Knowledge of engineering activities within the wider petrochemical industry.

Minimum Qualifications: Relevant Engineering Degree or equivalent qualification and experience.

Specialist Certifications: Chartered Engineer (non-US) or Professional Engineer (US) status, Membership of a relevant Institute (e.g. ICE, IStructE, ASCE, ACI, AISC etc.).
