The Department of Civil and Environmental Engineering at the University of Alberta invites applications for a tenure-track (Assistant) faculty position or tenured (Associate) faculty position to grow expertise in the area of Transportation Engineering. All areas of transportation engineering are being considered for this position, but priority will be given to candidates who exhibit research experience and/or teaching background in any of the following areas that will complement existing capabilities in the department: socio-technical systems, urban mobility, active transportation, equitable transportation, public transit, transportation sustainability, and intelligent transportation systems. The expected start date is July 1, 2023. The review of applications will start on February 1, 2023.

Successful candidates must have a Ph.D. in Transportation Engineering or a closely related field. They are expected to be or become a licensed Professional Engineer through the Association of Professional Engineers and Geoscientists of Alberta (APEGA, https://www.apega.ca/). Licensure must be obtained within five years from the date of hire.

Candidates must possess a record of publication in reputable, peer-reviewed journals and conference proceedings. The Department believes that innovation, professionalism, and excellence stem from faculty members who value diversity, equity, and inclusivity of perspectives and people, as indicated by a demonstrated record of service and volunteerism broadly related to their research, teaching, and/or equity, diversity, inclusivity, and decolonization, both past and future.

The Department of Civil and Environmental Engineering, including the School of Mining and Petroleum Engineering, aims to maintain its position among the top schools in North America. With a present complement of more than 60 faculty members, research in the Department is vigorous and covers all major areas of Civil, Environmental, Mining, and Petroleum Engineering. Our graduate program attracts outstanding students from the best schools worldwide and presently has an enrollment of over 500 students, including approximately 200 Ph.D. students. The undergraduate programs in Civil and Environmental Engineering, Mining Engineering, and Petroleum Engineering enroll close to 1000 students.
