Under general direction of the Town Manager, the Public Works Director plans, organizes, directs, and oversees the overall provision of public works projects and services for the Town of Prescott Valley, including streets, engineering, para-transit, Town facilities, fleet, and stormwater.
Reporting to the Town Manager, the Public Works Director oversees multiple divisions and is responsible for supervising managers, supervisors, and individual contributors. Develops performance standards, provides coaching, and formally evaluates, rewards, and recognizes the work of employees and volunteers. Assists staff to achieve performance standards, identifies and provides training and development opportunities for continual improvement. Addresses and resolves performance deficiencies.
Provides leadership, sets priorities, and establishes direction for Public Works services and activities. Is operational and strategically focused to achieve stated goals as derived from various planning tools such as the general plan. Gathers, interprets, and prepares data for studies, reports, and recommendations. Identifies and resolves administrative and operational problems. Overall ensures a superior customer service experience for citizens.
Reviews, revises, and enforces Town Code related to public work activities. Ensures department records are maintained within all applicable records management retention schedules. Develops, implements, and enforces policies.
Develops and administers operation, personnel, and capital improvement budgets. Oversees and/or participates in activities associated with requests for proposals, contract negotiations, and intergovernmental agreements. Monitors and approves department expenditures, payroll, and other financial records for compliance within all Town policies and fiscal responsibilities.
Drives the operational effectiveness of the department by partnering with Town leadership, direct and indirect reports, elected officials, and various appointed citizen advisory groups. Informs, educates, and dialogues with community members, peers in the industry, and state policy makers on matters of interest to the Town of Prescott Valley. Participates in regional planning as assigned.
