The City of Ventura is hiring! The City of Ventura’s Water Department is searching for a Principal Civil Engineer for the VenturaWaterPure Program. This is a unique opportunity to plan, oversee, and implement a potable reuse and ocean outfall project utilizing advanced technologies.  Be part of a close-knit team that works hand in hand with operations to successfully deliver Phase 1 of this challenging and forward-thinking program and plan future upgrades that are projected for Phase 2.

The Principal Civil Engineer will provide project management during the design and construction phases for the projects associated with the VenturaWaterPure Program. Infrastructure projects associated with the first phase of the Program include but are not limited to:  an Advanced Water Purification Facility (AWPF) with reverse osmosis, ultraviolet disinfection and advanced oxidation processes, groundwater injection and extraction facilities for indirect potable reuse, pipelines, and pump stations to support flows between the existing Ventura Water Reclamation Facility (VWRF), along with an ocean outfall for disposal of RO concentrate. The Program will also lead the Wastewater Capital Improvement Project that will replace the current secondary, tertiary, and disinfection processes at the VWRF with a membrane bioreactor and ultraviolet light disinfection.
 
The Ideal Candidate:
• has a proven track record of project management experience that demonstrates the ability to identify and resolve project issues
• has performed advanced technical civil engineering work 
• utilizes a team approach to problem-solving
• understands the techniques of managing, scheduling, and monitoring multiple projects simultaneously to ensure timely completion within budget
• demonstrates excellent oral and written communication skills
• experience working with water/wastewater-related engineering projects is desirable

Position Qualifications

A combination of training and experience equivalent to a Bachelor's degree in civil engineering or a related field and five years of professional civil engineering experience which includes some project management experience and two years supervisory experience.
 
License: Possession of a valid California driver license.
 
Certificates: Registration as a California Civil Engineer is required at time of appointment.
