As a Civil/Structural Design Engineer, in our Building Structures team, you will:
  • Take a lead role as a civil / structural design engineer within a team, helping to deliver typically large scale and challenging buildings and infrastructure projects
  • Demonstrate technical excellence in structural engineering, including concept, scheme and detailed design and a willingness to learn
  • Adopt a proactive and collaborative approach, working within multi-disciplinary teams to produce coordinated and elegant designs and reduce risks for design, construction and use
  • Plan, manage and supervise technicians in the production of Revit models and technical drawing deliverables.
  • Be clear and articulate in communicating your design process and decisions, such as client meetings and written reports
  • Support project leads in the management of projects with input into planning, costing and programmes
  • Apply best practice by minimising carbon through optioneering and design
  • Work in a wide variety of sectors including energy, rail, defence, commercial, healthcare and aviation, all involving in-depth civil / structural engineering
  • Visit sites to carry out structural inspections
  • Represent Mott MacDonald at internal and external design team meetings
  • Work with and mentor graduates and junior members of staff to develop their skills and abilities

A bit about the team
Our team in Norwich is seeking a talented and highly motivated Civil/Structural Design Engineer to take a leading role in the delivery of building projects. You will become an integral part of the team with responsibility for producing structural and heavy civil engineering designs across a range of project types and sizes.

You will be joining a friendly, locally based team of engineers within a multidisciplinary office where you will find supportive mentors and a lively social scene.

Candidate Specification

Required for the position of Civil/Structural Engineer;
  • To align with the majority (although not necessarily all) of the following criteria:
  • To be a Chartered or near-chartered member of a relevant Institution (ICE / IStructE)
  • A background of experience in civil / structural engineering of projects, preferably across all stages of design through to construction.
  • The ability to contribute to and coordinate production of high-quality engineering deliverables, such as option appraisals, drawings, calculations, reports, specifications and construction documents.
  • The ability to work collaboratively in multi-disciplinary teams
  • Good interpersonal skills and ability to communicate with clients, contractors and other project stakeholders.
  • Experience of undertaking building or infrastructure condition, defect or deterioration inspections and the preparations of reports
  • Experience of using analytical/design software such as Robot, Etabs, Staad, CSC, RAM, Tedds and other design spreadsheets or tools
  • Have a working knowledge and experience of building design using Eurocodes and relevant standards.
  • Familiar with model authoring tools such as AutoCad, Revit, Civils 3D, CADS RC
  • A clear understanding of relevant UK health and safety legislation and good practice, including roles and responsibilities under CDM Regulations 2015.
  • Commercial and contractual awareness
  • An enthusiasm for minimising environmental impact through low carbon and sustainable designs, while maximising benefits for society
  • Candidate must be able to attain UK Security clearance for working on secure / sensitive projects
  • Willingness to work away from home as required for short periods and hold a full UK driving licence
