An opportunity for a chartered civil or structural engineer to apply their skills at a senior level in the forensic engineering sector. Our client is one of the world's foremost forensic engineering consultancies, their experts are drawn from the civil, structural, geotechnical, construction claims and disputes, materials science, toxicology, automotive, fire, manufacturing, environmental and energy sectors. You would be joining a busy team of chartered civil and structural engineers and adding to a broad mix of technical expertise. They have a strong capability within the built environment and an international caseload that covers buildings, bridges, rail, highways, development infrastructure, industrial facilities, ports & harbours, renewables and much more.

The Company: A global leader in forensic investigations for the built environment. They are typically engaged by legal firms, insurers, loss adjusters, government agencies and client organisations. They will discover the root cause of a failure or defect, their findings are regularly used to settle litigation cases. The company is admired as an employer, terms and conditions of employment are generous and investment in staff is high. They work in a high margin sector with constant demand throughout economic cycles.

Your Profile: A chartered civil (MICE) or Structural (MIStructE) engineer, with a 2:1 degree or above, preferably with a consulting engineering background. A strong technical grounding with an appreciation of practical construction issues. In depth knowledge of designing building or civil structures at a senior level. Some experience of site survey / inspection work is advantageous. Problem solving and lateral thinking skills are essential, as is the ability to convey your findings in well written reports.

Your Role: Your work will be as broad as it is intriguing, encompassing high-rise structures, bridges, foundations, piling, water retaining structures and much more. You will be investigating the cause and origin of defects and structural failures which will often be used to resolve legal disputes and claims. During initial site investigations, you will oversee field testing and gather photographic evidence and interview witnesses, you will then start to unravel the cause of the failure, consulting specialist experts as required. You will then prepare a report that provides a clear and concise explanation of your findings. This needs to be expressed in a way that can be understood by those from a non-technical background, whilst being able to pass scrutiny during claims settlement and litigation. Guidance and training will be provided to enable you to apply your existing expertise and present your findings. You will also be offered the opportunity and training to become an expert witness. There may be the occasional requirement to make short overseas visits.

Remuneration: In addition to the attractive base salary and benefits their profit share scheme can provide significant additional income.
