As a Principal Civil Engineer, you will be providing technical leadership and guidance to a design team in the delivery of water and wastewater projects. The role involves detailed technical analysis, as well as financial project management and ensuring project delivery. As a leader of schemes, you will be working with Project Design Leads and stakeholders to ensure that delivery, value for money and innovation are brought into the process.

Southern Water are looking for an experienced Principal Civil Engineer to join the Water/Wastewater Infrastructure Civil team based in Falmer, Brighton on a full time basis. This role has a focus on leading a highly skilled team, technical problem solving, data analysis, and decision making. You will be:

Your core responsibilities will be:
* Developing and maintaining projects in accordance with the corporate health and safety, environment and quality standards, and ensuring the project team comply with such standards.
* Ensuring that designs deliver environmental and sustainable solutions.
* Providing technical guidance and leadership of the project team.
* Liaising with stakeholders, negotiating and influencing senior internal and external stakeholders.
* Leading design preparation of design calculations, specifications, datasheets and technical content of contracts.
* Implementing approved designs and ensuring technical governance & QA are adhered to, whilst managing the costs of projects and ensuring cost savings, and resolving complex designs issues.
* Promoting continuous improvements, through challenging existing company standards, and actively researching, seeking best practice to provide innovative standardisation.
* Ensuring designs are aligned with customer expectations to ensure outcomes customer satisfaction.
* The resource management and line management of staff including duties ensuring staff development and performance appraisals.
* Managing sub-consultants including supplier selection, performance appraisal and invoice approval
The successful candidate will have the following qualifications and experience:
* MEng/BEng/BSc or HNC in an Engineering, Environmental or numerate science related subject, as well as, Chartered Engineer of an appropriate Engineering /Scientific Institution.
* Proven and demonstrable technical background in delivering wastewater projects within the UK Water Industry to time and budget whilst in compliance with quality, safety and environmental procedures.
* Worked at a Principal/Senior Engineer (or equivalent) for at least 5 years with extensive knowledge of solution development and design.
* Thorough knowledge and understanding of the commercial operating environments of consultants, contractors and suppliers, relevant to the particular discipline. Understanding of the commercial processes of the organisation.
Complete and detailed understanding of the AMP cycle. Knowledge of the audit processes and practices in relation to the application of technical standards to design, construction and operation activities, developing standards that balance the risk between safety, customer expectations, compliance, OPEX and CAPEX.

This role will be full time Monday to Friday with a hybrid approach to working. You will receive a salary of up to £65,000 per annum depending on skills and experience as well as other benefits including:
