Our Client is a Principal Contractor, undertaking Signalling, Telecoms, High Voltage, DC, Low Voltage electrical installations, Track (P-Way), and civil engineering works of all types whilst continually responding to market changes and developments. They have an exciting opportunity for a Civil Engineer (Track) to join their team in Surrey.
Job Description:
In this role you will be working for a high performing SME where you have direct access to the Directors and can make direct impact from day 1!
You will be managing the civil engineering aspects of small-scale through to large-scale construction projects in a safe, timely and sustainable manner.
Some of the main responsibilities for this role include:
- Authorising technical drawings and engineering plans.
- Conducting on site investigations
- Reviewing and implementing temporary work designs
- Analysing and checking data (maps, reports, tests, drawings and other)
- Assessing potential risks, materials and costs
- Providing advice and resolving creatively any emerging problems/deficiencies
- Overseeing and mentoring staff and liaising with a variety of stakeholders
- Monitoring progress and compiling reports in project status
- Managing budget and purchase equipment/materials
- Complying with guidelines and regulations including permits, safety etc and delivering technical files and - other technical documentation as required
- Ensuring that all materials used and work performed are in accordance with the specifications
- Overseeing the selection and requisition of materials
- Agreeing a price for materials and make cost-effective solutions and proposals for the intended project
- Managing, monitoring and interpreting the contract design documents
- Liaising with the local authority (where appropriate to the project) to ensure compliance with local construction regulations and by-laws
- Resolving any unexpected technical difficulties and other problems that may arise.
- Completing quality assurance and providing feedback to the team.
- Completion of handback and as-built documentation and successful handover to client
Requirements
- 5 years' work experience in trackside civil engineering
- HV feeder renewals experience (nice to have)
- Substation renewals experience (nice to have)
- Bachelor's degree in Civil engineering
- Excellent problem-solving skills
- Strong communication and interpersonal skills
- Excellent organisational skills
- Effective leadership
- Ability to apply logical and critical thinking skills to projects
- Great written and verbal communication skills
- A willingness to learn
- A driver's licence
