Job Summary: This is entry or advanced level engineering work applying surface water models for the development of water resources planning and management strategies, minimum flows and levels, and engineering projects. 

 

 

 

Job duties include (for Engineer I, duties are performed at the entry level under the supervision of a professional engineer or an engineer scientist; for Engineer II or III, duties are performed at the advanced level):

 

  • Performs water quantity and water quality modeling of surface water basins using major watershed models such as: BASINS, HSPF, HEC-HMS, or other similar models; performs computer model calibration and verification of watershed simulations; maintains, updates and modifies water quantity and quality simulation models for the purpose of evaluating alternative surface water management plans. Performs hydraulic simulation of streams and rivers using hydraulic models such as HEC-RAS, SWMM, ICPR, or other similar models to evaluate the risk of increased flooding, and to produce stage-storage-discharge relationships for application in watershed models. Determines data needs for surface water modeling such as: GIS data, land use and soil data, meteorological data, and hydraulic data; designs hydrologic monitoring networks; performs statistical analyses on collected data and simulated results. Assists District colleagues in reviews of technical work; and attend project meetings.  Writes technical reports and participates in the presentation of study results; and attends training and seminars. Performs field surveys; performs miscellaneous hydrologic analyses; and performs other related duties/projects as assigned.

 

 

Minimum Qualifications:

 

Engineer I requires a bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university in environmental, civil, hydraulic, agricultural or water resource engineering.

 

Engineer II requires a bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university in environmental, civil, hydraulic, agricultural or water resource engineering, and two years engineering experience in the water resources/storm water management field.

 

Engineer III requires a bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university in environmental, civil, hydraulic, agricultural, or water resource engineering and four years engineering experience in the water resources/storm water management field.

 

Professional experience as described above can substitute on a year- for-year basis for the required college education. A Master’s Degree can be substituted for one year of relevant experience. A Doctor’s Degree can be substituted for two years of relevant experience.

Engineer I - $57,200.00 - $71,489.60

 

Engineer II - $61,193.60 - $76,481.60

 

Engineer III - $62,961.60 - $81,848.00

 

Starting salary is based on qualifications and experience

Counties partially in the district are Alachua, Baker, Bradford, Lake, Marion, Okeechobee, Orange and Osceola. District staff work from service centers in Palatka, Jacksonville, Maitland and Palm Bay.
