We are looking for a Chartered Civil Engineer wanting to move into more Project Engineer/Manager to be an integral part of our UK Rail team. With a motivation to tackle interesting problems, finding innovative and sustainable solutions and deliver meaningful work with successful client outcomes. You will work within a multidisciplinary team (in North; Glasgow, Edinburgh, Newcastle and Belfast) delivering a portfolio of exciting, varied rail projects as part of an established and expanding Rail Business across the UK and North America.

The Opportunity

You will be part of a team accountable for successfully delivering our design commissions for our significant clients, including Network Rail, contractors and other agencies such as Train Operators, Councils, Passenger Transport Executives and government agencies.

Current multidisciplinary projects include; Forth Rail Bridge, Station design and master planning, Transpennine Route Upgrade, Depot remodelling, Electrification and associated decarbonisation projects. Signalling renewals and numerous GRIP Stage 1-8 commissions for Network Rail and National Transport Bodies.

Ensuring the successful management and delivery of technically excellent multidisciplinary rail projects and bids across our UK Rail portfolio, you will be accountable for, and typical activities will include: Project Management of engineering and design activities and technical interfaces for the successful delivery of multidisciplinary projects. Establishing the engineering solutions from client gatherings, making sound decisions, and proposing the right project approach. Creating and maintaining a broad spectrum of combined relationships, inspiring self-assurance and belief with our teams and Clients. Disclosing and seeking knowledge, best practice and innovation across our business, providing guidance, training and feedback with other related disciplines and skills, locally and across the UK. Owning the commercial success of projects

You will have the freedom to work own initiative, managing your personal development utilising our in house and external training opportunities. As we foster a strong development culture across our business, you will also mentor more junior staff. The position offers scope for personal skill development, especially concerning increasing multidisciplinary engineering design management knowledge.

Reporting to your Rail Team head and supported by our discipline Technical Heads you will work with our rail design teams throughout bid and project stages. You will also develop relationships with our wider engineering community and our client's engineering and project teams..

Is this role right for you?
  • Knowlege in Design and Project Management of multidisciplinary rail projects (in the following areas: masterplans, enhancements, remodelling, renewals, depots, stations, civils, decarbonisation, introduction of new rolling stock).
  • Background in acting as a Project Manager, proficient in skill management, change management and delivery to programme.
  • A broad appreciation of the rail industry and its importance in achieving net zero targets
  • A proven record and a passion to guide, mentor, motivate and develop the skills of team members
  • An interest or exposure of digital automation, coding and data analytics techniques
  • An appropriate academic or equivalent qualification i.e. chartership member of the ICE, or similar
