Job Description
Due to continuation of our current projects across Wales, several local and trunk roads opportunities, and our input into the wider Mott MacDonald highways business, we are looking for Senior Civil Engineer to join our Welsh team. This is an opportunity to become a key part of our growing vibrant team and contribute to achieving a high performing shared enterprise with our partners. You will be based in our vibrant Cardiff or Colwyn Bay offices, but through using our go digital platforms you will be an integral part of the wider design and project support teams and have the opportunity to utilise our agile working practices to work on major projects across the UK and beyond.

As a Senior Civil Engineer you will be part of a growing UK Roads team and the role will combine managerial leadership with technical responsibility. You will work with the team to fulfil the needs of our highways teams across several projects and guide our clients through statutory and approval processes, complete design to DMRB requirements and provide project, risk and commercial management support to our wide portfolio. Utilising your communication skills, you will support and develop staff members through mentoring and guiding team members in their technical and continued professional development, whilst also being part of our integrated international highways or project/commercial management practices.
Importantly, you will promote our health, safety and wellbeing policies where we have a strong staff focused ethos on mental health and wellbeing.

Your responsibilities will also include:
  • Managing design packages involving multi-disciplinary design teams
  • Controlling project budgets and managing resources
  • Showing technical leadership and possessing in depth technical knowledge in highways engineering or a related subject
  • Driving digital application on projects, including BIM
  • Ensuring carbon net-zero agenda and positive social outcomes are promoted across our project. portfolio.

Candidate Specification
As a senior engineering professional, you have extensive experience in highways design as well as sound practical knowledge of highways design standards (Design Manual for Roads and Bridges, DMRB) and specifications (Manual of Contract Documents for Highway Works, MCHW). Using your communication and collaboration skills, youve been involved in leading design teams as well as mentoring team members and you can clearly interpret client requirements to produce engineering proposals. Additionally, you will have a full appreciation of health and safety legislation and how it applies to the engineering process. You will be willing to travel to client site or other offices when required.

You will also be able to demonstrate the following:
  • Degree in Civil Engineering (or a related subject)
  • Chartered with a professional institution such as ICE or CIHT (or equivalent)
  • Experience of leading multi-disciplinary teams
  • Demonstrable organisational skills and approach to work in order to manage inputs from various disciplines and professionals
  • Excellent time management skills with the ability to prioritise your workload effectively
  • Ability to develop strong professional relationships with clients and partners
  • Experience of working in a technical and commercial environment.
Desirable qualifications:
Although not essential, it would beneficial if you are degree qualified in Civil Engineering (or a related discipline) and are also a chartered member of a professional institute. Ideally you have demonstrable experience in leading the design process in a design & build environment on major roads projects including directly interfacing with the contractor at all stages of the process. If you have any experience in NEC contracts or quality requirements as well as experience preparing and procuring contracts this would be advantageous as would the ability to interpret client requirements and produce engineering proposals.
