Package: £50k to £60k salary + car allowance + comprehensive benefits package

Background
This is a rare and exciting opportunity to join an ambitious and growing business that has quickly become a market leader in the design, manufacture and supply of light gauge steel framing (LGSF) for the construction sector. Our client's innovative approach and associated solutions have positioned them strongly in their market/sector, which has resulted year-on-year growth from £7.5M turnover to £10.5M turnover within the last 2 years, and the business has conservative ambitions to deliver £20M turnover within the current strategic planning window.
As a forward-thinking company, our client is well positioned to achieve its ambitions for growth following recent substantial investments in additional people, space and specialist equipment.
This role is a new position and is viewed as key to support the continued growth of the company. The key focus of the role will be to work closely with architects, clients and structural engineers whilst managing external engineers on a day-to-day basis to ensure that the design brief is met in full on all projects.
The post-holder will also be an integral part of the senior team and will be responsible for leading and developing the capability of the design team.

The Role
To be successful within this role the post-holder will be able to effectively:
- Work with the Design Coordinator and Departmental Heads to ensure all programs are fully met.
- Communicate closely with the architect, client and structural engineers to ensure the design meets the full design brief and complies with the specified calculations.
- Manage external Engineers through the Design Coordinator on a day-to-day basis to ensure that the structural information is available to do the SFS/HRS design.
- Ensure quality and consistency of technical output (drawings, reports etc) is continuously maintained.
- Develop high quality technical reports including structural surveys.
- Review the Company's structural engineering information and highlight any issues or concerns.
- Take responsibility for developing accurate structural calculations.
- Develop effective working relationships with office peers, the client, production team, on site teams and consultant engineers to ensure that we deliver high quality, innovative and fit for purpose innovative solutions.
- Continually develop a range of expertise, working increasingly on own initiative.
- Review and resolve technical problems and report progress.
- Carry out effective technical reviews, appraisals and inspections of potential projects.
- Develop an understanding of the pricing process and implications of any design change with responsibility for ensuring that price deviations are calculated and pre-agreed.
- Attend Design Team and technical meetings as required.
- Continually develop range of expertise working increasingly on own initiative.
The Candidate
To be successful in this role the post-holder will be able to demonstrate:
- Will hold a minimum degree qualification in structural engineering discipline.
- Significant experience of successfully operating in a design role within a similar business.
- Demonstrate a very high level of competency in the use of AutoCAD, 3D modeling, other drawing software packages and Microsoft Office.
- Exceptional people skills and man-management capabilities.
- Independent thinking and problem-solving skills in addition to working collectively with the team.
- A positive/pro-active working attitude.
- Competency in the development of structural calculations.
- A depth of experience of structural analysis design and software.
- IT Literate & proficient user of Microsoft Office & Database Systems.
