Our client has a chemical manufacturing plant and they are looking for a Permit Writer to work on a minimum 6 month contract.
Shutdown/maintenance permit writer with suitable experience and training for the level of permitting to be carried out- Cold working, hot working, confined Space Entry and Excavation task; all supported by suitable mechanical isolation planning and proving. Site based training will be provided.
Role-
To work within a small team of 4 or 5 job holders in order to provide control of work expertise during the planning and execution of engineering / non-production activities for planned shutdowns and maintenance.
To work primarily on days based around a 40 hr week however a flexible time framework is required such that attendance amongst the team can provide coverage from 06:00 to 20:00 7 days per week if workload demands, with night shift cover for individuals of up to 4 shifts at a time. Night working will be by exceptional circumstances where no alternative work planning options exist.
Prepare, co-ordinate and authorise the safe work system activities for scheduled engineering / non-production activities.
o These will include the annual planned maintenance shutdowns but may also include breakdown tasks where there is a significant element of planned work running over several days (such as vessel change outs due to failures) where continuity of understanding is required and these resources can be utilised without impact on the main scheduled shutdowns.
Provide Control of Work expertise to the engineering planning team (for both shutdown activity and for other planned work as requested); and to the operations teams tasked with the preparation and execution of decontamination schedules.
Requirements-
• Minimum of 4 years of experience in an industrial manufacturing or engineering environment or in running shutdown/maintenance activities. Supervision of contractors/tradespeople in their discipline - electrical/mechanical
• Minimum of 5 years permitting experience in an industrial manufacturing or engineering environment
• A thorough understanding of Health and Safety practices (NEBOSH/IOSH)
• A methodical and organised approach to work
• A flexible attitude towards time worked under the overall umbrella of the Working Time Directive
