Bingham Rawlings Partnership (BRP) was formed in March 2000 by the currently retiring Principal Engineer from a management buyout of a UK wide Engineering Consultancy, Bingham Hall O'Hanlon, formerly Bingham Blades. The company was taken over in August 2022 by CADARN Consulting Engineers, an independent Civil and Structural Engineering Consultancy based on Anglesey in North Wales. As a successful, long standing Structural Engineering Consultancy, BRP offer a variety of Engineering Consultancy services with Structural Engineering as a core service to our clients across varying sectors. BRP, together with support from its sister company CADARN provide a wide variety of design, supervision, and management services in all construction sectors across the UK including industrial, commercial, residential, education and heavy infrastructure.
Principal Structural Engineer Job Overview
The role of Principal Structural Engineer, as part of the overall company management structure, delivers the high level of customer focused service many clients have come accustomed to, maintaining the reputation and esteem within which the company is held.
This role is a very exiting and unique opportunity to lead a small professional and experienced team and play a key role in the development of the company and the services it offers. The Principal Structural Engineer will ultimately be responsible for the future success of the business both commercially and professionally and will be charged with improving and developing the business.
The Principal Structural Engineer will work very closely with the Management team of CADARN and the company' board of Directors in identifying key targets, implementing a plan for growth and continual improvement.
Responsibilities and Duties
The main responsibilities and duties of this role are listed as follows:
* To lead the delivery of projects from initial enquiry, producing a proposal through to detailed design and in some cases, support through to completion of construction.
* To develop and maintain BRP' design systems and quality management systems ensuring commercial success of the business.
* To play a key role in the company management team and effectively implement the daily management and development of the company.
* To drive the growth of the business across North Wales and the North West by engaging with clients and other professionals to identify new leads and secure both new and repeat business.
* Maintain relationships with clients and develop new and existing relationships to enhance an established and already growing client base.
* Manage all members of the team and ensure continuous knowledge transfer throughout the team.
* Mentor staff members in their professional development and growth within the company.
* Create, maintain and develop the office workload programme.
* Provide professional advice to clients and prospective clients in the various forms of Engineering design available and best suited to their projects.
* Where necessary prepare and present internal CPD session on related topics and if required to small groups of clients also.
* With assistance, provide advice to allow the preparation a regular invoicing schedules for all completed or part complete works.
* Assist and manage compliance with CDM 2015 in the preparation of pre-construction health and safety information, Hazard identification drawings, Risk Assessments and Method Statements.
Principal Structural Engineer Qualifications
Listed below are the qualifications and experience considered desirable to undertake the role. Proven experience and professional recognitions may be prioritised over academic qualifications:
* Should be educated to degree level in Civil Engineering.
* Be a professional member (Chartered) of or working towards Chartership but currently hold Incorporate membership of an accredited Engineering related institution such as Institution of Civil Engineers (ICE) or Institution of Structural Engineers (IStructE).
* A professional and recognised Management or Leadership qualification would be advantageous but not essential.
* Knowledge and experience of recognised procurement methods advantageous including JCT, NEC 3 and 4 (various options).
* Experience of managing projects and staff members in a design led consultancy beneficial.
* Experience of Civil Engineering conceptual design and excellent understanding of Structural Engineering principles with demonstrable experience of structural design essential.
* Firm understanding of the requirements of CDM 2015 and the various roles including Designer and Principle Designer.

The following attributes are also considered beneficial but not essential:
* Full driving licence.
* Proficient in the use of Microsoft tools including Outlook, Word, Excel and Project.
* Experience of using CAD based software.
* Experience of using designed based software. BRP currently use CADS suite (3D Max, Portal Frame Designer 3D, VelVenti etc), Tekla TEDDS, TEKLA Structural Designer, TEKLA Structures and SCALE.
* Knowledge or experience of the delivery of projects using Revit and / or TEKLA software with BIM deliverables.
Salary and Renumeration
BRP ensures it reimburses staff at or above the going market rate and values it's staff as its most valuable asset. Salary for the role is negotiable and dependable upon experience and qualifications.
An indication of the salary range is shown. Annual leave is set at 24 days.
Other incentives available by BRP may include Pension, flexible working, company vehicle and personal communication devices. In addition, the company will pay all Institution membership fees as well as the opportunity to continue with professional or institutional qualification.
