Pre-Construction Engineer

Who are you?

You are a Construction Professional with proven experience of working with structural steelwork from design through to fabrication including experience with glass and grid shell and connection design. You will hold a minimum of an HNC in Structural or Architectural Engineering and have the ability to interpret architectural drawings, working to British & European Codes and Standards to tight deadlines.

They are a specialist construction design & Build contractor working on structural steelwork and ETFE structures and buildings.

What is the role?

This is a full-time, permanent position. Reporting to the Senior Pre-Construction Engineer you will design, engineer and develop cost effective steel, glass and Ethylene tetrafluoroethylene (ETFE) structural design and technical solutions within the design brief and standards.

What will my day-to-day duties look like?

Create accurate technical solution for clients' needs.

Keep budgetary needs of client at the forefront.

Check structural performance of projects being bid.

Assist with method statements.

Select appropriate structure and cladding from company standards.

Develop structural models using software and building codes.

Develop structural reactions for scopes of work.

Develop cladding geometries on complex forms.

Recommend and develop cladding details for projects.

Develop connections detailing as necessary.

Keep up to date with new software, tools and product costs.

Assist estimating by identifying anomalies in the client documents.

Communicate and resolve technical issues with clients as necessary.

Assist sales in the timely development of technical data.

Assist estimating as required in value engineering ideas for projects.

Run component, cladding and glass calculations as required.

Attend Design Team meetings as required.

Ensure Project information is uploaded to the project file.

Raise a Request for Information (RFI) order.

Ensure that the works are carried out to CDM regulations.

Attend site visits where necessary.

Become familiar with and assist in company methods of estimating.
