Introduction
Astute are proudly partnered with an established and growing renewable energy developer who operate on a global scale with many industry giants to develop offshore wind farms. My client are looking for a Substructures Design Engineer / Marine Design Engineer, who will lead the design of substructures for wind turbines and offshore substation platforms.

This will be a challenging role, working in the rapidly growing and thriving offshore wind sector. The successful candidate will be experienced in running electrical design/setting out projects. Although ideally from within a wind or renewable energy environment, we are welcoming applications with deep levels of experience from other industries in electrical engineering and project leading.

Roles & Responsibilities
Reporting to the Senior Design Manager you will be responsible for:
Design of substructures and components of offshore wind turbines, installations, substation platforms and more. Managing design projects from conception to completion including pre-FEED and FEED.
Ensuring clear communication with all key stakeholders and internal departments, providing technical support and advice as necessary.
Overall responsibility for delivering substructure design in support of full cycle, offshore wind farm development including providing design support for components manufacturing, transport and installation (T&I) and commissioning stages.
Specification writing and creating accurate technical documentation to assist procurement and project management teams can efficiently source suppliers, contractors etc.
Assisting in preparing responses to RFPs (requests for proposals), assessing offers and monitoring contractors.
Support the development, consenting or other departments by providing technical knowledge or advice.
Ensure the company and industry standards are adhered to at all times, supporting due diligence.
Take part in continuous improvements by monitoring technology advances, identifying potential cost savings etc.
Creation of mid-project or final reports of completed works for documentation or presenting purposes including records of lessons learned during projects for future improvements.

Skills & Qualifications
We are looking for someone with the following:
Degree qualified in Marine Engineering or Mechanical, Civil or Structural Engineering is essential.
The successful candidate will have at least 2 years of experience in the design of offshore wind turbines or subsea structures, marine/naval architecture, offshore platforms like substations or oil rig platforms etc.
Proficient in the use of 2D and/or 3D CAD packages. Additional proficiency in the use of FEA or other engineering software would be an advantage.
Knowledge of offshore structure design and analysis industry standards, processes and techniques is essential.
An understanding of how offshore windfarms operate and are developed would be advantageous.
Able to lead and work as part of a group effort - potentially with external support.
A proactive approach to solving technical or project issues.
Excellent communication skills - both written and verbal.
A willingness to travel. Hybrid working, Edinburgh based office with UK wide and international travel likely.
A valid UK driving licence.
