Under the supervision and direction from the Assistant City Engineer, the City of Wauwatosa is seeking applicants who will manage and perform professional-level engineering work in the areas of planning, technical design, project management, and construction oversight for new construction and rehabilitation of municipal water distribution systems, wastewater collection systems, and storm water systems. Successfully interfaces with multi-disciplinary department staff, regulatory agencies, consultants, and contractors. Provides direction and supervision to Engineers and Engineering Technicians.  Flexible hybrid work accommodations are available.

The starting salary for this position is $81,078.40 - $111,176.00 depending on experience and qualifications. The following are normal for the position but shall not be construed as exclusive or inclusive.  Other related duties may be required and assigned.

  • Condition assessment evaluations for water, wastewater, and storm system assets including conducting field observation, inspection, and data collection
  • Perform sophisticated  and complicated designs and calculations in accordance with established standards and software
  • Developing detailed designs of water/wastewater/storm sewer storage, collection, and distribution systems including plans and specifications
  • Preparation of permit submittals for water and wastewater projects.
  • Support procurement including supplier qualifications, bid reviews, process design requirements, review of design drawings and supplier documents, successful resolution of manufacturing discrepancies, support for installation, generation of as-built drawings, and onsite support.
  • Participate in construction support activities including responses to requests for information (RFIs), submittal reviews, construction site visits, design revisions/ management of change, startup and commissioning, and troubleshooting
  • Water distribution system master planning
  • Supervises and provides direction to Engineers and Engineering Technicians.
  • Participate in local water and wastewater professional organizations

Minimum Requirements:

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Civil Engineering from an ABET accredited program required.  
  • Must be a Professional Engineer licensed in the State of Wisconsin.
  • A valid Wisconsin Driver’s License is required.
  • Knowledge of municipal water/wastewater/storm facilities and/or conveyance infrastructure
  • Knowledge of the principles and practices of public works design, drafting, surveying and construction.  
  • Experience utilizing computer aided design software, preferably AutoCAD-Civil3D.
  • Must be proficient in Microsoft Excel, Word and Outlook  

Preferred Requirements

  • 10 to 15 years of relevant experience
  • Demonstrated capabilities and success in managing medium to large projects, and/or multiple projects, on-time and within budget
  • Pressure pipe hydraulic modeling experience
  • Knowledge of Modeling Software – EPASWMM or PCSWMM, EPANET or similar,  Bentley WaterCAD
