Job Description
We are looking for a
Civil Engineer with water/ wastewater or highways sector design experience to join our growing team. Your role will be to work collaboratively with the design team to provide civil design and support to our key clients on our Coal Authority and Local Authority frameworks. This role will provide you with the opportunity to develop your technical and management skills, grow your professional network, and provide you with excellent long-term potential to advance your career.

Your role and responsibilities will include the following:

People
  • Work collaboratively with members of the JNB and JBAB teams and contribute to creating a positive and engaging environment.
  • Support the technical development of the overall team and where appropriate supervise the work of more junior civil engineers, providing technical and professional guidance to aid their development.
  • Contribute to driving an excellence culture in the team, including identifying and addressing competency gaps.
Delivery
  • Deliver civil engineering design, including managing design quality control processes and checking and reviewing the work of others.
  • Contribute to the identification and development of affordable and low carbon solutions, including risk management.
  • Undertake civil design aspects such as gravity hydraulic systems, earthworks, foundations, and pipework.
  • Co-ordinate and integrate geotechnical and structural design.
  • Produce technical specifications and support engagement with suppliers and subcontractors and undertake technical reviews of their design.
  • Understand the clients standards and support the Design Lead to ensure that the design outputs comply with the required standards and quality requirements to achieve client acceptance.
  • Support the Design Lead in technical meetings with the client to achieve acceptances.
  • Appreciate the competing tensions of time, cost, and quality.
  • Manage safety, wellbeing, environment and sustainability within your designs.
Engagement
  • Positively engage with our clients to develop relationships and influence, and to enhance our reputation and develop a point of difference.
  • Identify opportunities to innovate and develop the clients standards to achieve value and efficiencies.
  • Contribute to achieving high KPI scores.

Candidate Specification
You will have the following qualifications, skills and experience:
  • Qualified Civil design engineer.
  • Experience in delivering the design for water, or wastewater, highways, non-infrastructure, and infrastructure design.
  • A broad experience of producing civil designs, as well as integrating geotechnical and structural designs.
  • Able to collaborate and work effectively within a multidiscipline and diverse team, and proven record in mentoring and developing junior staff in design.
  • Understanding of designers responsibilities under CDM
  • Understanding of programme, budget and quality requirements.
  • An understanding of procurement and construction.
  • Excellent communication and stakeholder management skills
  • Proactive approach and growth mindset, with an ability to adapt to changing scenarios.
  • Able to manage competing tensions for the benefit of developing better outcomes.
